A beekeeping family based in Kunneppu, Kitami, Hokkaido. They spend most of the year deep in the mountains of Hokkaido harvesting honey, moving south to Shizuoka for the winter and returning north again in spring, following the blooming of the flowers. They choose land free from residual agricultural chemicals, stay in tune with the rhythm of the seasons, and never work against the natural cycle of the bees and their environment – truly a family who “live together with bees.” They spare no effort: in the dehydration process they simply wait, watching as the bees fan their wings to gently remove excess moisture from the nectar. The 100% pure honey made in this careful way offers a rich variety of aromas and flavors, from acacia to linden, depending on the blossom. Its quality has gradually been recognized, and it is now used by luxury hotels and other discerning clients.
“Linden Mead” is a honey wine brewed by Kanno Honey Farm using nothing but linden honey gathered in the forests of Kunneppu, Hokkaido. Mead is said to be the oldest alcoholic beverage in human history and the origin of the word “honeymoon,” while linden flowers symbolize “marital love.” With this in mind, we developed the concept and package design so that the drink could be enjoyed as a bridal gift.
The two flavor profiles – Classic and Sweet – are expressed through contrasting label colors of pale mint green and soft pink, paired with the gently celebratory script logotype of “Linden Mead.” Icons of a bird that carries happiness and the linden tree itself complete a visual world that feels at home in any festive setting. From the generous white margins of the label, the color of the unfiltered, gently cloudy mead peeks through, allowing its softness and aroma to be felt visually as well.
