The Elephant Rope

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.

Enjoy your day and stay positive😉

The Buried Millions
In a far countryside village there lived a wealthy man who had 3 lazy sons. He worked hard to amass wealth that the whole village could spend in a couple of years without knowing what work means. He was highly respected by the villagers but his sons were a disgrace to him. They used to loiter around, squandering his wealth and could not do anything labeled work. The wealthy man regularly talked to his sons to teach and mentor them so that they could be good stewards of his wealth once he was gone but the sons could not take any of that. They just wanted to enjoy life the easy way.
The wealthy man got sick and his huge pieces of land were abandoned since there was nobody to actively take good care of them. Bushes grew, animals inhabited it, weeds sucked its nutrients and thorns found a home on it without any torture. On his deathbed the man tried to plea with his sons to take up the challenge and take care of the now thicket-infested land. None of them dared listen to their wealthy father.
One day when their mother was taking care of her sick husband, the husband said his hour of leaving was fast dawning and his final words were: “Tell my sons that before I got sick to a point of being bedridden, I withdrew all my millions and hid the money in a hole in the bushy land along ………. ”. He died before completing the sentence.
The mother called her sons and told them what their father had said, that all his millions he had buried them in a hole in their land but did not specify where before he took his final breathe. Now the sons got excited and decided to clear the land looking for any signs of the hidden money. After clearing the land, they never noticed any traits of the money and they decided to dig up the land very keenly looking for the briefcases full of money but they never found the money.
The rains of that season started and the mother suggested that
probably digging up holes would help see the briefcases which the sons did but to no avail. Finally they decided to plant maize and beans waiting for the next season for them to dig deeper looking for the money. When they harvested the farm’s produce they sold it and earned millions of cash. The mother called them and told them: “We may have not found the briefcases but we have found our land back and earned our own millions!!”
This happens to be the story of most of us who are so driven by money more than anything in life. If millions were hidden in their dreams, they would work on them properly and dig even deeper. What they don’t realize is that in their talents lie the millions, in their skills lie the briefcases full of cash, in their wisdom lies the stacks of dollars all for them yet to be discovered.
Sometimes, it takes pressure to mine the goldmine in us and benefit from it. Some are lazily walking through life looking hopeless without realizing that millions could be made from hobbies they abandoned, talents they have not sharpened, skills they have not utilized and gifts they have not mastered. Let this be a wake up call to go out today and identify the buried millions in our lives and start mining them looking for them. It will surprise us how rich we are and how a single step can turn our lives around.
Have an adventurous Day ahead as you mine the million buried in your life.
