It was NOT about the Madaraka Day event.
It was not about the Wajir stadium.

For folks in NE Kenya; It WAS about the recognition that it's part of this nation; that residents are citizens with equal rights as others; that development is not a favour to us; and that official discrimination of the region by policymakers is being buried.
It’s a pushbback against those who profile NE Kenya as 'Somalia', brand the residents 'foreigners' not deserving Kenyan identity, who see the residents as 'terrorists' and who label development in this region as a favour.
The day marked a paradigm shift institutionalised by the President William Samoei Ruto which repudiates the decades-old policy of marginalization by those who feel entitled/ priviledged in this nation.
It symbolised our seat at the table as equals, not as part of the menu.

The closure of the Strait of has laid bare the world’s economic dependence on the narrow waterway leading out of the Persian Gulf. Nearly three months into the Iran war, it is well known that around one-fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petroleum products normally passes through the strait.

Rising energy prices might be just the first harbinger of a truly global crisis, though. Despite a U.S.-Iran cease-fire, the ongoing Hormuz blockade is straining supplies of the other critical yet overlooked ingredients of the world economy that are downstream from fossil fuels, including sulfur, helium, nitrogen, aluminum, and plastics.

Trace those shortages further down supply chains, and it becomes clear that few commodities are insulated from the Iran war.
