The Day I Surrendered to the Needle
The Mirror of Doom.
It started with a bump. Not just any bump, but a throbbing, angry, volcanic cyst sitting directly above my eye. The temptation to do a risky, late-night DIY bathroom surgery was real. But then I remembered the rules of facial survival: you do not mess around with the "danger triangle" near your eyes unless you want a one-way ticket to a severe infection. I swallowed my pride, admitted defeat, and booked a doctor's appointment.
Enter the Nemesis
Anyone who truly knows me knows that I would rather wrestle a bear than face an injection. I despise needles. Period. So, imagine my absolute horror when the doctor looked at my eyebrow and casually announced: "We need to incise and drain this, but first, we need to completely numb the area."My soul left my body. They were going to bring a sharp, gleaming needle directly toward my face. My palms went from zero to sweaty in a millisecond. My heart was hammering a heavy metal solo against my ribs.
The Squeeze of Life.
Enter my savior. My amazing wife didn’t just sit in the corner scrolling on her phone. She stepped right up to the battlefield, grabbed my white-knuckled hands, and anchored me to reality. The doctor told me to take a deep breath. I closed my eyes and squeezed my wife’s hands like my life depended on it (and honestly, it felt like it did). Then came the sting. The local anesthetic hit the skin right above my eye, and it felt like a tiny, icy lightning bolt. I think I cut off the circulation to my wife’s fingers, but she didn’t let go. She held on tight, letting me absorb her bravery while the doctor worked to freeze the zone.
Victory and Relief.
Once the "euthanization" of my eyebrow was complete, the area went totally numb. I couldn't feel a single thing as the doctor safely and professionally drained the beast.I walked out of that clinic with a small bandage over my brow, a heavily bruised ego, and a massive wave of relief. The throbbing pressure is finally gone! I still absolutely hate needles with every fiber of my being, but I survived. Huge shoutout to the medical team, and an even bigger shoutout to my incredible wife for being my rock, my hand-holder, and my emotional support human today. ❤️
