Did you know?
A giant ship's engine broke down and no one could repair it, so they hired a Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years of experience.

He inspected the engine very carefully, from top to bottom. After seeing everything, the engineer unloaded his bag and pulled out a small hammer.

He knocked something gently. Soon, the engine came to life again. The engine has been fixed!

A week later the engineer mentioned to the ship owner that the total cost of repairing the giant ship was $20,000.

"What?!" said the owner.

"You did almost nothing. Give us a detailed bill."

The answer is simple:

Tap with a hammer: $2

Know where to knock and how much to knock: $19,998

The importance of appreciating one's expertise and experience...because those are the results of struggles, experiments and even tears.

If I do a job in 20 minutes it's because I spent 20 years learning how to do that in 20 minutes. You owe me for the years, not the minutes.

Your phone eavesdrop on you because the mic for most of the apps is on, that's why after speaking with someone & mentioning a product, FB & Instagram starts sending ads of that product to you. No be juju. Disable the mic.

Have you ever heard of a sandwich generation?
This is the middle age between 40-65...
It's that time you find yourself being demanded by both sides of life and there's no escape.
It's at this age as a parent you may be parenting teenagers who are keeping you on your toes. Consequently, you may also have aging and ailing parents who are also looking up to you. At the same time, too much is happening around you :
Marital crisis
Loss of parents
Loss of spouses
Loss of health
Loss of friends
Loss of siblings
And more so, fear of old age is crippling ... white hair starts emerging without apology, fine small wrinkles start interfering with the beautiful face... Loose and sagging bellies...sometimes causing some low self-esteem....
This is the time, when one may start feeling pressured if has not yet achieved his dreams: building 🏫, buying properties, putting up business...
Concurrently, this is the time to giving back to the society in:
Leadership
Charity contribution
Mentorship....
This age calls for intentional self-care
Take time to spoil yourself:
Find humor and laugh out
Do exercise
Go swimming
Do nature walks
Eat healthy
Dress well
Hang out with people who believe in you.
Enjoy

Tips for a job interview:

1. Eye contact is important: look directly at your interviewer when speaking to them and when they speak to you. If you cannot look at them, this shows you are nervous and not confident.

2. Sit up straight with both hands on the table. You want to look professional and confident.

3. Answer every question as directly as possible. If you don’t know what to say, use an example from your previous job/life that relates to the question.

4. Be polite and courteous. Shake the interviewers hand at the beginning and end of the interview. Say “thank you for your time” at the end of the interview.

5. Smile and show your passion and enthusiasm for the job. Show them that this job is very important to you.

6. Speak as formally as possible. Using informal language is not okay during an interview.

7. Keep your answers short, direct and concise. Usually, the interviewer only has a short amount of time for the interview. Talking too much or “talking in circles” is not good.

8. Try to relax and think positively about the whole process. They can tell if you are stressed out or have a negative mindset and most likely will not hire you.

Good luck!

When it comes to hiring tech talent, there are several key traits I believe CEOs should look for (possibly through their HR) to ensure the right fit. Here are some essential qualities that stand out for me:

1️⃣ Adaptability: The tech landscape is rapidly evolving, making adaptability very crucial. When sourcing for tech talents, look for candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn, embrace change, and thrive in dynamic environments. These professionals who can quickly adapt to new technologies, methodologies, and market shifts will help your company stay ahead of the curve.

2️⃣ Problem-Solving Skills: Challenges in Tech are inevitable, yet they present fresh opportunities to stand out in your niche. CEOs therefore need to find individuals with exceptional problem-solving skills, or those willing to learn. Seek candidates who when faced with a complex issue, can approach it with a logical mindset, break it down into manageable parts, and suggest/deploy innovative solutions. Other skills like strong analytical thinking, and the ability to think creatively are key traits to also consider.

3️⃣ Collaborative Mindset: To build successful tech projects, you will often require cross-functional collaboration. Candidates who possess excellent teamwork and communication skills are the best bet. These are individuals who can effectively collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients, thus fostering a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and collective success.

As a CEO, you should prioritise these traits during the hiring process(es). Doing so will enable you to assemble teams that possess technical prowess, and also thrive in an ever-changing tech landscape.

While this may seem easier said than done, if you constantly reflect and prioritise these traits, you'll be on your way to managing an amazing and productive team. Remember! you are accountable for the company's performance and reputation.

What do you think, fellow professionals? Are there any other key traits you believe are essential when hiring tech talent? I'd be glad to know your thoughts and experiences. Let's learn from each other, and build amazing tech teams.
