Governor Nyong’o unveils 10 point manifesto, urges locals to run
Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o on Thursday, July 21, 2022 unveiled his 10 point manifesto aimed at propelling the Lakeside County to new development heights, if re-elected on August 09, 2022.
The manifesto, themed “building the future on the foundation we have” seeks to put Kisumu at the top of Kenya’s development map, built on 10 foundations.
The foundations are agriculture, health and sanitation, roads, transport and public works, education, water and environment, housing and urban development, sports and culture, industrialization, tourism and heritage, and governance and administration.
Speaking during the manifesto launch at the Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Church in Milimani Kisumu, Nyong’o said if given a fresh mandate, his administration will revitalize agriculture for food security and agribusiness.
“We will provide resources to put more land under production in Nyando, Kisumu East, Muhoroni, Nyakach, Kisumu West and Seme Sub Counties,” said the governor
On health and sanitation, the governor committed to ensure a healthy population living in a clean environment through various programs and projects, including decentralizing of medical services by improving 7 sub-county hospitals to receive referrals from lower level facilities.
“We are coming back to increase health insurance coverage for the population of Kisumu to above 70%.”
He said Kisumu County has a long way to go to witness development levels enjoyed by European Countries, urging residents to run as Europeans walk.
“We must run while Europeans walk. Otherwise we will not be able to catch up with them.”
Nyong’o was elected in 2017, basing his first term manifesto on creating a City management board, cleaning up the City and doing away with the Kachok dumpsite, clearing up the drainage system, establishing village councils and administrators and paying community health volunteers.
