A Tribute to a Disciplined Cadre and Custodian of the Original Vision
Dedicating the 43rd SPLA Anniversary to General Nicodemus Deng Deng Aliir

On this historic occasion of the 43rd Anniversary of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), we stand in solemn remembrance of the sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering determination that shaped the liberation struggle of our people. This day is not merely a celebration of history; it is a reaffirmation of the ideals upon which the movement was founded — justice, equality, unity, dignity, and freedom for all.

As the Deputy Chairman, I proudly dedicate this year’s SPLA Anniversary to General Cdr Nicodemus Deng Aliir, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the South Sudan Equality Movement and Armys, SSEM SSEA. a disciplined cadre whose commitment to the liberation ideals remains steadfast and unshaken.

General Nicodemus Deng Deng Aliir belongs to the generation that witnessed the original vision of the SPLM/SPLA under the leadership of the late Dr. John Garang de Mabior. He has remained a symbol of discipline, patriotism, courage, and ideological consistency throughout the many chapters of our national journey. In times of uncertainty and division, he continued to stand for the principles of equality, justice, and inclusive nationhood.
The history of the SPLA cannot be told without recognizing men and women who preserved the spirit of sacrifice when many abandoned the course. General Nicodemus Deng Deng Aliir is among those rare patriots who understood that liberation was never about personal power, but about restoring dignity and creating a peaceful and united South Sudan where every citizen has equal opportunity and protection under the law.

Today, as we commemorate 43 years since the birth of the SPLA on 16th May 1983, we honor not only the fallen heroes and heroines of the struggle, but also living custodians of the revolutionary vision.
The dedication and leadership demonstrated by General Nicodemus Deng Deng Aliir continue to inspire a new generation to pursue peace with justice, leadership with integrity, and unity with equality.

This anniversary should remind all South Sudanese that the dream of the liberation struggle remains alive. The responsibility now rests upon all patriots to protect the values of national unity, discipline, accountability, and peaceful coexistence for future generations.

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, may the legacy of our martyrs guide us, may the vision of Dr. John Garang de Mabior continue to inspire us, and may leaders like General Nicodemus Deng Deng Aliir strengthen our collective determination to build a stable, prosperous, and inclusive South Sudan.

Long live the spirit of the SPLA.
Long live equality, peace, and unity.
Long live South Sudan.
Signed:
Diney Gatkuoth Chuol

A VISION BEYOND TIME
My Birthday Reflection — 7th May

“The future belongs to those who dare to envision it before the world can see it.”

Today, I celebrate not only the day I was born, but the journey, purpose, and vision that God has placed upon my life. On the 7th of May, 2002, a dream was born — a dream that continues to grow through resilience, sacrifice, leadership and hope for a better tomorrow.

As I mark another year of life, I reflect with gratitude upon the path I have walked, the lessons learned, the battles fought, and the people who have stood beside me through every season. Life has taught me that leadership is not about power, but purpose; not about position, but service to humanity.

I remain committed to inspiring young people to believe in themselves, rise above limitations, and become builders of peace, unity, justice, and transformation for our beloved Republic of South Sudan 🇸🇸 and Africa at large.

On this special day, I also celebrate the beautiful existence of Nyachudier, my dear fiancée and future wife, whose presence continues to bring encouragement, strength, peace, and meaning to my journey. Your support, loyalty, and belief in me are deeply appreciated, and I thank God for your life today and always.

As I step into this new chapter, I pray for greater wisdom, strength, favor, and the courage to continue pursuing the vision ahead with integrity and determination. The dream is alive, and the mission continues.

Happy Birthday to me.
May the future be brighter than ever before.

Safeguarding Truth: A Tribute to World Press Freedom Day

Every year on May 3rd, the world comes together to observe World Press Freedom Day — a moment of reflection, recognition, and renewed commitment to the principles of free, independent, and responsible journalism.

At its core, press freedom is not merely a privilege of the media; it is a fundamental pillar of democracy. A free press empowers citizens with accurate information, holds leaders accountable, and amplifies voices that might otherwise go unheard. Without it, transparency fades, and the foundations of justice begin to erode.

Today, we honor the courage and resilience of journalists across the globe — those who risk their safety, and in some cases their lives, to uncover the truth. Their dedication reminds us that journalism is not just a profession, but a public service rooted in integrity and sacrifice.

However, this day is not only about celebration; it is also a call to action. In many parts of the world, press freedom remains under threat. Censorship, intimidation, misinformation, and violence against journalists continue to challenge the very essence of truth and accountability. These realities demand collective responsibility — from governments, institutions, and citizens alike — to protect and uphold media freedom.

As we commemorate this important day, let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering an environment where journalists can operate freely and safely, where truth is valued over propaganda, and where information serves the public good.

The future of democracy depends on the strength of its press. Let us stand together in defense of truth, for when the press is free, society is empowered.

The Power of Labour: Driving Change and Shaping the Future

On this Labour Day, we pause to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of workers across all sectors of society.
Labour is not merely a means of livelihood — it is the foundation upon which communities are built, economies are sustained, and nations are transformed.

In my capacity as Executive Director of Civic Horizon Initiative (CHI), I extend profound appreciation to every individual whose daily efforts, resilience, and commitment continue to shape a better future for us all.
From those in formal employment to those in informal sectors, your dedication remains the driving force behind progress and stability.

At Civic Horizon Initiative, we firmly believe in the promotion of dignity in work, equitable opportunities, and the empowerment of young people and communities to actively participate in development.
Labour Day serves as a reminder that sustainable growth can only be achieved when the rights, welfare, and aspirations of workers are protected and prioritized.

As we commemorate this day, let us renew our collective responsibility to foster environments that value hard work, encourage innovation, and uphold fairness and justice in all spheres of labor.
To every worker — your effort matters, your voice counts, and your contribution is indispensable.

Happy Labour Day.

Among countless worlds unfallen and pure,
There is but one — Earth — wounded and unsure.

Yet of all creation beneath heaven’s span,
It is here that love reached down to redeem man.

For every soul upon this fragile sod,
Was purchased by the sacrifice of Christ our God.

What boundless grace, what mystery untold —
A love more precious than silver or gold.

Happy Sabbath Saints of the Most High God
