I have seen people saying ooh you are preaching asparagus; it is the next quail business.
Here are key things to note about asparagus and me selling asparagus seeds.
1. Asparagus is not new in the Kenyan soils it has been grown as early as the 70s.
2. I am not the first person to sell asparagus seeds, you can get seeds from continental seeds or east Africa seeds, they are cheap they sell a packet of UC 72 and Mary Washington at around 900-1200 per pack. My smallest pack of 3g I sell at ksh1,000 since it's atlas and thats the global retail price.
3. You can get seeds in Gilgil at around 25k for a kg of asparagus. The generation is unknown unlike mine which I source from a reputable seed breeder.
4. Where is the problem if good food became available to the local markets.
Why don't we grow the most expensive and enjoy ourselves. Read the health benefits of asparagus.
5. Asparagus is an expensive venture and requires good market connections .
6. I am not here for the very new person into Asparagus farming, I am here for the person who wants to start it right with the right seeds.
7. If you feel asparagus farming is quail because the largest market is export, then hass avocados are quails also.
8. Asparagus can thrive in kajiado, Narok, Nakuru , some parts of ukambani, coastal region, Highlands that produces potatoes in large, selected soils in central Kenya, sugarcane belts and maize belts areas.
