Official Statement by Taji Awards

Today, we honour the extraordinary courage of Samuel Wanyonyi Wangila, a devoted volunteer of the Kenya Red Cross who gave his life while rescuing others from the swollen Nairobi River.

Samuel embodied the highest form of heroism - selfless service. He did not run from danger; he ran toward it. His sacrifice is a powerful reminder that true greatness is measured not by titles, but by impact.

As Taji, we formally recognise and celebrate Samuel Wangila as a National Hero of Service. His name will be honoured in our roll of courage, and his legacy will stand as a symbol of bravery, patriotism, and humanity.

Kenya has lost a hero - but his light will continue to guide us.

After five days on foot, Biez Kaviru arrived at Harambee House and placed a message where it mattered most - a message carried on behalf of families living with the reality of cancer. Through resolve, endurance, and conviction, he transformed movement into meaning and art into advocacy.

This act reminds us that leadership can begin with one person, one step, and one unwavering purpose.
