It's been almost 10 years since this video was shared. Now more than ever, it's important to look boldly at the reality of race and gender bias -- and understand how the two can combine to create even more harm. Kimberlé Crenshaw uses the term "intersectionality" to describe this phenomenon; as she says, if you're standing in the path of multiple forms of exclusion, you're likely to get hit by both. In this moving talk, she calls on us to bear witness to this reality and speak up for victims of prejudice.

Happy Birthday, Dad.

Today, I celebrate not just your birthday, but also the strength, love, and resilience you have demonstrated every day since Mum's passing. For over 20 years, you have embraced both roles with courage and quiet sacrifice. You have been our comfort, guide, and protector, even through difficult times.

Thank you for your boundless love, patience, and for always believing in us. Because of you, we understand what real strength, responsibility, and unconditional love truly are. I am deeply grateful to have you as my father and the best role model I could ask for.

Wishing you a new year filled with peace, good health, joy, and all the happiness you deserve.
Happy Birthday, Dad.

You are deeply loved and truly appreciated every day.

Listen carefully: How to tame your advice monster

I had the opportunity to speak about Personal Branding to the University of the People African Academic Network community, a topic that is increasingly relevant in professional and personal growth. As I prepared for this session, I realized how often we focus on building technical skills but overlook the importance of how we present ourselves to the world.

Personal branding is about being intentional with our image, values, and voice, crafting a consistent story that communicates who we are and what we stand for.

During my presentation, I emphasized that personal branding is not about self-promotion or perfection; it is about authenticity and clarity. We examined how our values, actions, and online presence influence how others perceive us. I encouraged my peers to think about the question: “What do you want to be known for?” The discussion that followed was vibrant and insightful, as many shared their experiences and challenges in building a professional identity. The positive feedback I received affirmed that this is a conversation worth continuing, one that helps us align our ambitions with how we show up in academic, professional, and digital spaces.

Reflecting on today’s experience, I am grateful for the chance to inspire others while learning with them. Personal branding is an ongoing journey of growth and self-awareness. As I continue to explore this topic, I hope to encourage more students to take ownership of their stories, project their strengths confidently, and build brands that reflect their true potential.
