Rehoboth
‘Then they dug another well and quarrelled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.
HE MOVED ON FROM THERE AND DUG ANOTHER WELL, and they did not quarrel over it. He named it Rehoboth and said, “AT LAST THE LORD HAS MADE ROOM FOR US, AND WE WILL BE FRUITFUL IN THE LAND.”’
(Genesis 26:21-22).
Rehoboth (Hebrew for "broad places" or "room") signifies God's provision after conflict. It represents space, prosperity, and new beginnings. It symbolizes overcoming strife to find enlargement and God’s rest.
After conflict with Philistines over numerous wells (“sources” of water), Isaac finally dug a new one and named it Rehoboth, saying, "Now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land."
This teaches us about God's faithfulness, prosperity, and space for growth after trials. It assures us that even after going through various trials, God will always come through for us, to rescue us and give us rust.
A "season of Rehoboth" in Christian teaching signifies a time of divine enlargement, provision, and freedom from past struggles, where one finds space to flourish.
“In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, TO DO GOOD FOR YOU IN THE END.”
(Deuteronomy 8:16).
In another example of God’s faithfulness, God led Israel through the desert, providing manna to humble them and test their dependence on Him, not their own strength. This testing wasn't for punishment, but "to do you good in the end," meaning to establish them and bless them.
The process was to prepare them for the Canaan experience, lest after experiencing prosperity in the good land, they might forget the Lord and attribute their success to themselves, which would lead to destruction.
Remembering God as the source of their power and wealth, and obeying His commands, ensures that the blessings continue and that things go well for us in the latter end.
"The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."
(Proverbs 10:22).
This means that true, lasting prosperity comes from God's favor, bringing fulfillment, peace, and well-being, unlike wealth gained through ungodly means (like greed or exploitation), which often comes with stress, guilt, and heartache, despite material gain.
It contrasts God's pure blessing with worldly riches that can be burdensome, emphasizing that divine enrichment is without the accompanying troubles of selfish acquisition. True wealth originates from God's blessing, not just hard work or cunning schemes.
GENUINE Prosperity is divine blessing that brings holistic well-being (spirit, soul, body) and peace, not just money. Unlike riches gained through wrong paths (overwork, greed, injustice) that bring stress and regret, God's blessing enriches without adding sorrow or trouble.
Wisdom vs. Toil: It highlights that while hard work is good, it's God's blessing that ultimately provides true richness, contrasting with excessive toil or schemes that bring frustration.
In summary, God's blessing makes you truly rich and content, whereas riches obtained by selfish means often leave you with more problems and unhappiness.
