The seventh generation of Toyota vehicles sold under the Corolla brand was the Corolla E100. Compared to the model it replaced, this version of Corolla was bigger, heavier, and more aerodynamically designed. With a wheelbase of 2,465 mm (97.0 in), the Corolla had displaced the Corona and Camry as the small car class. There, the XL, XE, and GLi versions of the E100 Corolla were offered for sale. The 1.3-liter, carbureted 2E engine was available for both the XL and XE; the latter model added power steering, alloy wheels, a digital clock, and a tachometer. A 1.6-liter fuel-injected powerplant (4A-FE) was installed in the GLi. While the XL and XE only came with the 5-speed manual transmission, the flagship model was available with both the manual,This generation of the Corolla was the first 1.6 liter car to introduce 14-inch (360 mm) alloy wheels to the country in 1992. Other pioneer features that followed were rear seatbelts, front cup holders (late 1994) and a driver's airbag (late 1995). ABS followed during its later years.
