WHOSE WORK SHOULD WE BE LOOKING AT? 🌍📷

Extraordinary photography is being made across Africa.
But important work isn’t always easy to discover.

GGI Media wants to help change that by creating more space for African photographers and African perspectives to be seen.

So, over to you:

📷 Tag ONE African photographer whose work more people should know — and tell us WHY we should be looking.

We’ll be exploring your recommendations for future GGI Media features.

African stories. African voices. Seen more widely.

WORLD LION DAY | A lion story is never just about the lion 🦁

Wildlife photography often begins with the animal.

Visual storytelling asks us to keep looking.

What landscape makes its life possible?
Who shares that landscape?
Who protects it?
Where are the relationships, pressures and moments of coexistence?

Across Africa, lions do not exist separately from people or place. Their stories stretch across protected areas, conservancies and community lands — and some of the most important photographs in a lion story may not contain a lion at all.

That is part of learning to see.

A portrait introduces us to the individual.
A wider frame gives us context.
A visual story helps us understand how it all connects.

So this World Lion Day, a challenge for photographers:

Photograph the lion. Then turn around and photograph its world.

The people. The landscape. The pressures. The relationships. The details that tell us why this animal’s story matters.

📷 Try this on your next wildlife shoot: make one portrait, one wider frame and one image that tells us something about the world around your subject.

👉Save this carousel. Take the challenge into the field!
And tag GGI Media in what you create …. we’d love to see how you tell the wider story.

Seeing the subject is only the beginning.

What else belongs to this story?

Step back.

Habitat, space, water and movement are part of the photograph too.

Step back.

Habitat, space, water and movement are part of the photograph too.

Across Africa, wildlife stories are also human stories.

Look for the people who share, shape and protect these landscapes.

Come closer.

A portrait lets us meet the individual — expression, character, presence.

Now step back.

The wider frame reveals place, relationships and the world the animal depends on.

This is where a wildlife photograph becomes visual storytelling.

Every photograph is a decision.

By choosing what is sharp, and what isn’t, you guide the viewer’s eye before they’ve even realised it.

Ask yourself:
• What is the first thing I want someone to notice?
• Does my focus support the story?
• If everything is equally sharp, where does the eye go?

Focus isn’t just a technical setting.

It’s one of the strongest storytelling tools you have.

The best photographers don’t just notice more.

They notice differently.

Every powerful image begins long before the shutter clicks—with curiosity, patience, and a willingness to really see.

👉What have you noticed today that you might have walked past yesterday?

Follow GGI Media for practical lessons that will change the way you see … and the way you tell stories through your images.

Every powerful photograph begins long before the shutter is pressed.

It begins with curiosity.

The strongest storytellers don’t just look.
They ask questions.
They notice what others overlook.
They stay a little longer.

Every person, every landscape and every moment holds a story waiting to be understood—not just photographed.

This week at GGI Media we’re exploring how stronger storytelling creates stronger impact.

👉Follow along this week for practical storytelling lessons that will change the way you see.

✨ OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT ✨

Some partnerships are built around business.

Ours is built around a shared belief.

That authentic African stories have the power to educate, inspire, connect people, and create lasting impact.

Today, we’re proud to announce the official partnership between GGI Media and Nairobi Film Production.

Together, we’ll be creating documentary films, photography projects, creative productions, storytelling education, and new opportunities that help African storytellers share their work with the world.

This partnership isn’t simply about creating more content.

It’s about creating stories that matter.

Stories that celebrate Africa’s people, cultures, landscapes and wildlife with authenticity, respect and purpose.

This is only the beginning!

Here’s to telling Africa’s stories, together.

Building a career in visual storytelling takes more than technical skill.

In a recent piece-to-camera for the Eddie Adams Workshop, photographer Katie Orlinsky shared two reminders that resonate strongly with our approach at GGI Media.

“This job is built on relationships.”

Photography is about more than cameras and portfolios. It’s about the people you meet, the trust you earn, and the way you show up throughout your career.

And this:

“You have to do the work to get the work.”

The stories you pursue because you believe in them often become the work that opens future opportunities.

At GGI Media, we believe that great visual storytellers are shaped not only by the images they create, but by their curiosity, generosity, consistency and commitment to telling meaningful stories.

🙏🏾Thank you, Katie Orlinsky and Eddie Adams Workshop, for sharing these valuable reflections with the next generation of visual storytellers.
