Beauty standards are changing ...and so is the global conversation around African female body shapes.

Connie was recently hosted by BBC World Service for a global conversation exploring the evolving perceptions of the African female body shape and the growing discourse around weight-loss drugs.

With World Service reaching more than 150 million listeners worldwide, the discussion examined how beauty standards continue to shift shaped by culture, media narratives, fashion, and changing social expectations.

African female body shapes have long been celebrated, debated, and often interpreted through different cultural lenses. It was important to contribute an African perspective to this global conversation and reflect on how these ideals are evolving today.

Connie also shared the dialogue with renowned global fashion personality and executive educator Mollie Obileye whose insights added depth and perspective to the discussion.

Conversations like these matter because they challenge perceptions, open space for reflection, and remind us that beauty standards are never fixed —they evolve with culture, context, and voice.

As implementing partners for British Council program, we remain deeply inspired by the impact of intentional capacity building within Kenya’s fashion ecosystem. The program supports emerging and growth-stage designers to strengthen their creative practice, sharpen business skills, and access both local and international markets.

On Saturday, 7th February, we hosted the Nakuru Masterclass
, creating space for practical learning, honest exchange, and future-facing conversations.

A standout moment was the story of Nakuru’s iconic fashion house Tiankara_Creations now stewarded by its third generation. Their journey highlighted resilience, smart pricing strategies, insights into the evolving Kenyan fashion consumer, and a production ecosystem that supports both their own brands and other designers.

led an engaging session on E-commerce in fashion, unpacking its opportunities, challenges, and the growing role of AI in today’s digital marketplace. Adding another vital layer, fashion influencer and brand model

challenged designers to rethink storytelling beyond aesthetics emphasizing intentional narratives and value-based collaborations.
