When it comes to planning an event, there are a lot of moving parts. One of the most important parts is hiring the right vendors; they can make or break your event. Today I want to speak for us, the smaller players in the industry. While big-name vendors may have a solid reputation, there are several reasons why they may not be the ideal fit for your specific event requirements. These are a few reasons why you should consider hiring smaller, specialised vendors for your event:
- Big suppliers often have standardised processes and may not be flexible enough to accommodate the unique needs of your event. They may be focused on managing big projects, making it challenging to provide personalised attention and tailor their services to your specific needs.
- Big suppliers tend to have higher overhead costs. Consequently, their pricing may be inflated to cover these expenses. While their name recognition may initially attract you, it's essential to evaluate whether their services truly provide the value you seek within your budget.
- Big vendors may struggle to adapt quickly to changing circumstances or provide nimble solutions. Events often require last-minute adjustments, unforeseen technical challenges, or unique requests. Smaller, specialised vendors are often more agile, responsive, and willing to go the extra mile to meet your evolving needs.
- Big vendors often handle multiple projects simultaneously, which can lead to divided attention and limited availability for your event. Building a strong rapport and having direct access to key personnel may be more challenging when working with big vendors. In contrast, (us) smaller vendors are often more invested in building long-term relationships and providing personalised attention to ensure your event's success.
- While big names may have a solid reputation, they may sometimes become complacent and rely on past successes without embracing new technologies, trends, or innovative ideas. On the other hand, (we) smaller vendors are more entrepreneurial and open to exploring creative solutions, pushing boundaries, and delivering fresh and unique experiences for your event.
- Depending on the nature of your event, you may require specialised expertise that big vendors might lack. Smaller vendors who focus on specific services often possess deep knowledge, experience, and resources.
So, if you're looking for a vendor who is reliable, affordable, and responsive, it is worth considering smaller, less known vendors. They may not have the same name recognition as big-name vendors, but they can offer a better level of service and quality at a fraction of the cost.
