TAITA TAVETA PRESS CLUB PARTNERS WITH STAKEHOLDERS IN HISTORIC 3-DAY BATTLEFIELD FUNDRAISER FOR NEEDY STUDENTS
Taita Taveta Press Club has partnered with other stakeholders in a historic three-day Battlefield Run and Tsavo Cultural Festival aimed at raising funds for needy university students while showcasing Taita Taveta’s best cultural heritage and tourism sites.
The countywide event, jointly hosted by Taita Taveta University, the County Government of Taita Taveta and the Press Club as a core media partner, is scheduled to kick off in early October 2026 and culminate on October 10th coinciding with Utamaduni Day. According to the university, if well orchestrated, the event could mobilize enough resources to support thousands of learners through the University Endowment Fund.
Speaking during the media launch at Voi Wildlife Lodge last Friday, Governor Andrew Mwadime called on leaders, development partners and residents to channel resources to the Endowment Fund, noting that supporting needy learners is an investment in the county’s future and a collective responsibility.
Taita Taveta University’s Dean of the School of Mines and Engineering, Dr. Nashon Adero, said the initiative has the potential to transform lives by enabling disadvantaged but bright students to acquire skills that will drive the county’s socio-economic development. The Head of Planning and Programmes, Lucas Maulana, added that the university is conducting research to ensure the support is sustainable and reaches the most deserving students.
As the festival’s media partner, Taita Taveta Press Club will play a central role in orchestrating and amplifying its message. Chairperson Kituku Sylvester said journalists will sustain publicity before, during and after the event, document the county’s cultural and battlefield narratives, mobilize community participation and highlight its social and economic impact.
Beyond education, the festival will leverage sport, culture and history to position Taita Taveta as a heritage and tourism destination, bringing together athletes, cultural groups, tourism stakeholders and development partners.
Ultimately, organisers say the success of the inaugural Battlefield Run and Tsavo Cultural Festival will not be measured by the number of participants and visitors it attracts, but by the number of disadvantaged students whose educational dreams are revived through the Endowment Fund.
