A few days ago, I sat at a small biashara spot in Voi Town watching people pass by boda riders rushing customers, farmers carrying produce, tourists heading toward Tsavo, and young people discussing dreams bigger than the towns they come from.

And got me thinking…

What is it really like to start and build a business in Taita Taveta today?

Many people say the county has huge potential:
🌍 Tourism
🌱 Agriculture
⛏️ Mining
🚛 Transport & logistics
💡 Youth talent and creativity

But at the same time, entrepreneurs still face real challenges:
⚡ Limited opportunities and exposure
📶 Connectivity and digital access in some areas
💰 Access to capital and investment
🛣️ Market reach and infrastructure
👥 Small market circles where everyone knows everyone

Yet somehow, some businesses still grow, survive, and even thrive here. Maybe because people in Taita Taveta are resilient. Maybe because opportunities still exist for those willing to adapt, collaborate, and think differently.

Personally, I believe the future belongs to businesses that:

Ah!🤯 moment for you

Ever wondered why Tsavo’s elephants look like they walked straight out of a Mars. The secret isn’t in their DNA. it’s in the soil beneath their feet.

Science explains, The Red dust soil is red because the iron within it has rusted. And when elephants dust-bathe to protect themselves from the harsh sun and insects, they end up wearing nature’s own red coat.

But beyond the science, many of us grew up hearing fascinating stories about why soils and rocks have different colors.

Some of the legends went like this:

“Red soil is stained by blood from ancient battles.”
“Black cotton soil hides treasure deep underground.”
“White soil is made from the bones of giants.”
