Cambodiaβs Homegrown Tech Sector Eyes Regional Competitiveness
Cambodiaβs technology sector is being positioned to play a greater role in the countryβs digital economy, with a new national campaign seeking to promote locally built technology, digital infrastructure, cloud solutions and e-commerce platforms while connecting domestic tech creators with businesses, investors and policymakers.
The focus forms part of βPowered by Cambodiaβ, a six-month campaign spearheaded by B2B Asia News with support from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC), the Capacity Building and Research and Development Fund (CBRD Fund) and Khmer Enterprise.
The campaign was launched through Cambodia Tech Sprint Day on July 31, held at Factory Phnom Penh, bringing together entrepreneurs, startup founders, SME owners, innovators, students and technology professionals.
Anthony Galliano, Director of B2B Asia News, said the campaign was designed to support and promote innovators in Cambodiaβs digital technology landscape.
βWhen we first conceptualised Powered By Cambodia, we asked ourselves a fundamental question: What does the future of the Kingdomβs digital economy look like, and who is building it? The answer is standing in this room,β he said.
βIt is being coded in offices across Phnom Penh, deployed in local cloud servers, and integrated into small businesses across our provinces. Through Powered By Cambodia, we are stepping up to champion locally built technology, digital infrastructure, cloud solutions, and e-commerce platforms.β
The campaign seeks to foster cross-industry collaboration and build confidence in domestic innovation by showcasing locally engineered platforms, digital tools and scalable business models.
According to B2B Asia News, the initiative aims to demonstrate that Cambodiaβs technology sector can address domestic market challenges while becoming increasingly equipped to compete on a regional scale.
A key element of the campaign is its role as a bridge between Cambodian technology creators and corporate decision-makers, investors and policymakers, potentially giving local technology businesses greater exposure to commercial and investment opportunities.
At Cambodia Tech Sprint Day, the Tech Marketplace brought together more than 20 digital startups, SMEs, technology companies and entrepreneurs. An Innovation Showcase also featured 10 digital technology innovators presenting their solutions and products.
The event included specialised workshops led by experts from BKD Academy, 2080 Ventures and PharmKulen, covering digital literacy, ideation, vibe coding and practical artificial intelligence tools for small businesses.
The campaign will continue over the next five months with a series of initiatives focused on Cambodiaβs digital capabilities and technology ecosystem.
The Cambodia Data Trust Lab will examine local data centres and cloud infrastructure, while My Digital Cambodia will showcase digital tools, apps and services used in everyday life.
Cambodia Digital Sovereignty will bring ministers, policymakers and industry leaders together for discussions on the policy framework for Cambodiaβs digital future.
Meanwhile, the Cambodia Digital Talent Launchpad will feature a live coding challenge targeting students and young developers, with a focus on software engineering and technology education programmes.
The six-month campaign will conclude with the βPowered by Cambodiaβ Experience Exhibition, which will showcase the outputs, stories and developments from the campaign.
Sarvinoz Nuritdinova, CEO of B2B Asia News, said the first event demonstrated the potential of Cambodiaβs technology ecosystem and marked the beginning of the wider campaign.
βAs we draw Cambodia Tech Sprint Day to a close, I am filled with immense optimism. Today, we were able to see the future of Cambodian technology in action,β she said.
βFrom our insightful specialised workshops, to the vibrant energy across the Tech Marketplace, we were able to see that Cambodiaβs tech ecosystem is thriving, innovating, and ready to lead.β
She described the event as the first step in the six-month digital confidence journey under the βPowered by Cambodiaβ campaign.
