Thai Military Attack on Civilian Areas in Thmar Da

Please be informed of the serious situation unfolding along the Cambodia–Thailand border following what Cambodia considers an initiated attack by Thai military forces against its sovereignty in the 5th Military Region, Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
At 12:33 PM on December 9, 2025, Cambodian authorities report that Thai military units fired 105mm and 155mm artillery shells, striking civilian residential zones in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district. The attack is described as indiscriminate and brutal, placing innocent lives at risk and endangering regional stability.
The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia firmly condemns what it characterizes as inhumane and unacceptable actions by the Thai side.
Such conduct represents, from Cambodia’s perspective, a serious violation of both the Ceasefire Agreement and the Joint Declaration jointly signed on October 26, 2025, witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister H.E. Anwar Ibrahim in his role as ASEAN Chair.
