SIEM REAP IN TOP 25 WORLD BEST CITIES LIST
Siem Reap is listed as number 16 in Travel+ Leisure’s new World Best Cities Top 25 list for 2020.
Temple Town comes in behind Tokyo – listed as number 15 – and after Lisbon, listed as number 17.
Mexico took the two top places with Oaxaca at number 1 and San Miguel de Allende at Number 2.
Number 3 best city in the world is Hoi An, Vietnam
Other Southeast Asian cities named in the list are Chiang Mai (Thailand, No.4), Luang Prabang (Laos, No.8), Ubud (Indonesia, No.9), Bangkok (Thailand, No.12), and Singapore (Singapore, No.21).
Last year, Hoi An took out the title of Best City in the World.

TEN SEA MEDIA COMPANIES PARTICIPATE IN TRANSFORMATION PROGRAM
Ten Asian news publishers have signed up for a five-month transformation program organised by WAN-Ifra and underwritten by Facebook.
Taking part are the Bangkok Post, Bisnis Indonesia, Kompas Media Nusantara, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Sin Chew Media Corporation, Singapore Press Holdings, The Edge Communications, the Jakarta Post, the Manila Bulletin and United Daily News.
The inaugural Newsroom and Business Transformation 2020 programme is a first-of-its-kind programme for Asian news organisations which brings one senior editorial and one senior commercial executive from each publisher together for five months of training and coaching.
Participants will meet online every fortnight from June to October.

Vietnam’s audiobook and podcast platform Voiz FM has raised seed funding from 500 Startups Vietnam
Voiz FM, launched in late 2019, aims to bring high-quality programming to Vietnam and Southeast Asia
The platform has acquired exclusive publishing rights for more than 1,000 best-selling titles, partnering with top publishers in Vietnam including Kim D**g, Alphabooks, and Tre Publishers.
The company, which said it doubled its listernship in “recent months” will spend the new funding on product development and market expansion.

ABS-CBN BATTLES FOR ITS FRANCHISE RENEWAL
ContentAsia reports that Philippines’ broadcaster ABS-CBN continues its battle against a powerful lobby opposing its franchise renewal.
Network execs are fast-tracking a digital channel launch, and an announcement about the new service is expected soon.
Hearings into the franchise renewal continue this month with the solicitor general, Jose Calida, claiming that ABS-CBN violated its previous franchise too many times.
ABS-CBN denied the allegations, including foreign ownership accusations.

ASTRO WOOS TAMIL MARKET IN MALAYSIA
Malaysia’s Astro is promoting its HD upgrades with increased Tamil programming.
This includes the pop-up channel Rajini70, plus Zee Tamil HD from Indians Zee Entertainment, and in-house service Astro Vaanavil HD.
According to ContentAsia, the three channels increase Astro’s Indian HD channels to nine.

THAI BROADCASTER MCOT REACTS TO ITS RADIO HOST CONTRACTING VIRUS
Thai-list broadcaster MCOT reports at that at the beginn9ing of the virus inset in Thailand, a host of an MCOT radio station tested positive for Covid-19 after he came to the station and performed his duty. This inevitably affected MCOT’s radio operations.
Management ceased broadcasting FM. 99 MHz for 14 days.
Controlling, cleaning and disinfecting the workplace were conducted. MCOT also monitored and followed up all related vulnerable officers. They were required to put themselves in quarantines and offered COVID-19 test. In accordance with measures on communicable disease control, screening measures for officers and outside visitors were tightened.
To reduce risks which may occur in the company during operations, MCOT has established measures as follows
Providing a screening point and sanitizing equipment and conducting cleaning on a regular basis
Providing protective equipment to prevent the infection and spreading and facilitating officers’ operations inside and outside office
Utilizing technologies in operations such as news reporting, meetings etc. Revamping presentation of programs on television, radio and other MCOT media
Establishing “Work from Home” measures to reduce area density

GMA NETWORK’S NEWS PRGRAM A RATINGS WINNER
GMA Network’s flagship news program 24 Oras, which is being simulcast on both GMA and GMA News TV, emerged as the most-watched program nationwide in the Philippines, reaching more Filipinos with a people rating of 23.6% or 11.4 million viewers.
This is based on Nielsen’s Nationwide Urban Television Audience Measurement research from May 6 to 12 (based on overnight ratings). 24 Oras is anchored by Jessica Soho, Vicky Morales, and Atom Araullo.
The award-winning magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) similarly posted high numbers with a people rating of 21.5% or 10.4 million viewers nationwide.

ENTRIES FOR ASIAN DIGITAL MEDIA AWARDS NOW OPEN
The Asian Digital Media Awards is now calling for entries which can be submitted up to July 30.
The awards, presented by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, recognise Asian publishers who have delivered unique and original digital media projects in the last 12 months.
To give recognition to smaller media companies, the Asian Digital Media Awards is starting a special award for news media companies with an annual revenue of less than US$10 million. This award replaces the Bronze award which was given out previously.
Winners will be officially announced at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Asia 2020 in Hong Kong on October 2, 2020.

MYANMAR EDITOR GETS TWO YEARS JAIL FOR VIRUS REPORTING ERROR
Myanmar editor Zaw Ye Htet was jailed for two years after his online agency Dae Pyaw erroneously reported a Covide-19 death.
He faced trail only one week after his arrest on May13, an unusually swift process for Myanmar.
It is not clear why the trial took place so quickly.
His wife said the decision would be appealed.
