In this week, we are delighted to introduce Nguyễn Hoàng Thái Duy (Thaiji), Lead of Creative at MONQ Vietnam. With nearly 10 years of experience in global agencies - and now at MONQ - he shares his perspective on MONQ Culture, the Lead of Creative role and the Vietnamese advertising market. “Is there a way to stand out from competitors and become No. 1?”

This is something many brands expect from agencies—and something we constantly explore ourselves. But it’s important to draw a clear distinction here: “differentiation” and “capturing market demand.”

You can’t create differentiation if there is no market demand. On the other hand, you can’t capture market demand if there’s no differentiation. (This is exactly why brand marketing and performance marketing must go hand in hand.)

That’s why, whether we are working on brand marketing or performance marketing, we always think about an appeal method rooted in brand originality. Sometimes, this approach takes a direction completely unrelated to trends—provided everyone recognizes its necessity.

Kakao’s brand campaign, Kakao’s Imagination, was a perfect example of this. While short, attention-grabbing videos were dominating digital service advertising, Kakao went the opposite way—producing five episodes of long-form content, each over five minutes. The result? The campaign was so successful that it won the Grand Prix at a digital advertising festival.

What we explored and focused on was none other than “people” and “communication.”
Today, we’d like to share how we think about the brand–customer relationship through the example of Kakao’s brand campaign.

“People don’t buy because of brand campaigns?”

Performance marketing has become a core strategy for driving customer action.
Data-driven targeting and exposure are undoubtedly essential in today’s advertising landscape.

But performance marketing cannot create demand that doesn’t already exist.
It simply competes to capture existing demand and guide customers toward our brand.

In fact, exposure through performance marketing doesn’t automatically translate into purchases.
Around 95% of the target audience seeing an ad have no intention of buying right now. And the remaining 5% won’t necessarily drive an extraordinary increase in conversion rates.
This is what we call the 95/5 rule.

Performance marketing works best when it engages customers at the right moment—when they have both the budget and the need to make a purchase.
Creating that purchase desire? That’s the role of brand marketing.

Brand marketing is not “just flashy, inefficient ad play.”
It’s about building future demand by considering the brand and customer lifecycle together—whether that future is one month away or 5–10 years down the road.

That’s why we believe it’s essential for brands to use brand marketing to form a sustained relationship with their customers—so that performance marketing can capture them more effectively later.

At MONQ, we believe that creativity starts with a question - to dive deeper, see clearer, and get closer to what truly matters in a world full of change.
👉 We ask “Why not?” - to see and think differently, from the usual ways to default norms, old behavior patterns, and even fixed stereotypes.
👉 We ask “Why not something else?” - to shift our point of view, explore fresh angles, open unexpected perspectives, and unleash the full spectrum of possibilities within.
👉 We ask “Why now?” - to let the idea land, catch the right moment, meet the right people, and arrive at the right place in their lives.
👉 We ask “Why beyond?” - to grow further, build what lasts, and stay sustainable with tomorrow’s meaning.

Mondays are more than just the start of the week—they’re an opportunity to 해시태그 and 해시태그 .

After the General Meeting, where each team shares their projects, we host a Monday Question, where 1-3 team members present their INSIGHTS.

The theme is always 해시태그 , and the presentations offer a chance to:

↳ Exchange practical tips and ideas
