This morning, my husband, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and I had the profound blessing of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of our Muslim brothers and sisters right here on the grounds of the Presidential Lodge for our congregational Eid-Ul-Adha prayers. Looking out at the sea of faithful believers gathered in Freetown, my heart overflowed with gratitude for the unmatched spirit of devotion and togetherness that defines our people. This sacred day reminds us of the power of deep faith and unconditional sacrifice. It was a beautiful, humbling moment to join our hearts in prayer with the entire Ummah, reflecting on our shared values of charity, love, and compassion for the vulnerable.

As the Mother of the Nation, I am constantly inspired by how our faith brings us together to lift one another up. Through our collective prayers today, we asked for continuous peace, stability, and abundant blessings for our beloved Sierra Leone and the global community. My fervent prayer is that the essence of this holy day remains in our homes and communities, guiding us to be more obedient to the Almighty and more generous to our neighbors. From my family to yours, I wish you all a deeply blessed and peaceful celebration.

With the passing of power from Patrice Talon to Romuald Wadagni, Benin now has three living former presidents, and none is in exile.

A rare enough fact in Africa to be emphasized and even meditated on.

Elsewhere on the continent, power often leaves its feet in front, or under the threat of a coup, or in the solitude of forced exile. Benin, he, demonstrates that a calmed alternative is possible and sustainable.

Is the democratic change that has just taken place in Benin, an outgoing president handing over power to a citizen who is not his biological family really a problem for Africa, or on the contrary a role model?

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), women from across the country gathered at the Bo Coronation Field this afternoon to celebrate this historic milestone and to demonstrate our unity and resolve ahead of the 2028 elections.

Upon my arrival, I was received by a mammoth crowd of women who stood firm and united, sending a strong message that this celebration is not only about reflection but also about solidarity and shared purpose. Our collective voice today affirmed that we are more united than ever before.

The slogan of the day was “Ehbema,” a clear declaration that, with our unity, the APC will not return to power.

Today’s gathering also highlighted the remarkable achievements of my husband’s administration over the years particularly in the protection and empowerment of women and girls.

This includes the allocation of a 30% quota for women in all elected and appointed positions, giving women not only a voice but also a seat at the table of national decision-making.

A landmark accomplishment of this government, under my husband’s leadership, is the criminalization of child marriage a bill I had the privilege to present to Parliament. What was once accepted as the norm is now a taboo, with perpetrators facing imprisonment for not less than 15 years.

We came out in our numbers today to celebrate this legacy, and to express our unwavering support, gratitude, and appreciation.

Since the founding of our party, Sierra Leone has experienced transformative progress, and that is why women across the country turned out in strength to honor both the party and its leader.

To the women who stood with us this afternoon: let us remain united, continue to support my husband, and stand firm in saying Ehbema APC will not come to power.
