Did You Know?

Gas stations add scent to natural gas, because it’s actually odorless. The “gas smell” is FAKE! ⛽

Natural gas by itself is completely odorless - it has no smell at all. The strong, rotten-egg-like odor we associate with “gas” actually comes from a chemical called mercaptan (or methanethiol), which gas companies add intentionally so people can detect leaks quickly and stay safe.

Back in 2010, Kevin Systrom was just another guy working at a startup - but he loved photography.
In his free time, he built an app called 'Burbn', inspired by his love for fine whiskey and bourbon.

The app allowed people to check in at locations, make plans, share photos, and earn points.
Sounds cool, right?
Except... people didn’t care about most of those features.

Kevin and his co-founder Mike Krieger started noticing a pattern - users were using only one part of the app: 'the photo sharing'.

So, they made a bold decision.
They deleted every other feature and focused on just photos.

They renamed it 'INSTAGRAM' - combining Instant Camera + Telegram.

Within 24 hours of launch, it had 25,000 downloads.
Within 2 months, it had 1 million users.

By 2012, Facebook saw the potential - and bought Instagram for $1 billion.

Today, Instagram has over 2 billion monthly users.
All because two people dared to simplify.

💡 Marketing Lesson:
Sometimes success doesn’t come from adding more - it comes from removing the noise and focusing on what truly connects with people.

Canva: From Rejection to a $40 Billion Design Empire

Melanie Perkins was just 19 when she came up with the idea for Canva - after watching her classmates struggle to design presentations.

She pitched her idea to over 100 investors - and almost everyone said NO.

But she kept refining her pitch, learned how to explain her vision in simpler terms, and finally convinced one investor to believe in her dream.

Today, Canva is used by over 135 million people every month - and Melanie is one of the youngest female billionaires in the world.

💡 Marketing lesson: Don’t sell your idea - sell the problem you’re solving. People invest when they understand why it matters.

In 1985, Coca-Cola changed its classic formula to compete with Pepsi. The new taste tested better, but when it hit stores, loyal fans were furious. Protests, boycotts, and media outrage forced Coke to bring back the original in just 79 days.

Lesson: Never mess with what your audience emotionally connects to. Marketing isn’t just about taste. It’s about trust and nostalgia.

When Krispy Kreme opened new outlets, they didn’t spend a single cent on massive ad campaigns.
No billboards. No influencers. No fancy slogans.

Instead, they did something genius - they let the smell do the talking.

They built open kitchens so everyone walking by could see those golden doughnuts getting glazed and smell that warm, sweet aroma floating through the air.

People couldn’t resist. They followed the smell, one by one, until lines started forming outside the store. Some even waited for hours - all for a box of fresh, melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts.

That’s how Krispy Kreme became a sensation. No hype. Just pure experience.

Sometimes, your product is your best marketing tool - you just have to let people feel it,

In 1999, Amazon received a U.S. patent for its “1-Click” ordering system - where a customer’s payment and shipping details are saved, so they can buy instantly with a single click.

Because of this, other e-commerce companies couldn’t legally use a 1-click checkout unless they licensed it from Amazon.

Imagine Apple engineers sitting there like: “Guys… how do we make people click twice without looking dumb?” 😆

Apple actually licensed it in 2000 for its iTunes store - so every iTunes song you bought with one click was thanks to Amazon’s patent.

Competitors had to use “2 clicks” or more to avoid legal trouble.

Good news: the patent expired in 2017, so now anyone can enjoy the sweet luxury of one-click shopping. 😁

So, there’s this guy who walks into Starbucks.
Cashier: “What’s your name?”
Guy: “Marc. With a C.”

Easy, right? Except… when his order was ready, the barista shouted:
“Latte for… Cark?”

Everyone turned around like, “Who on earth is Cark?”
And there he was… poor Marc, holding a cup that officially renamed him.

The photo went viral, and the internet still hasn’t stopped laughing .😁

In Los Angeles, a small family restaurant called 'The Original Tamale Company' became super popular overnight , all because of a fun video made in just 10 minutes...

Christian Ortega, the owner’s nephew, had a funny idea - What if a man was falling from the sky… and he chose to land at our tamale shop?

Using AI tools like ChatGPT for the script and voiceover, he made a 46-second video that was simple, silly, and full of humor.

They posted it online… and it exploded.

22 million people watched it

1.2 million liked it

Soon, the little tamale shop was getting more customers than ever before.

Sometimes, one small idea can make a big difference.
