This lorry carries a full load of goods, could have been sourced from various streets in Pettah, Sri Lanka, by an outstation retailer or wholesaler . The goods range from rice cookers and clothing racks to white goods and more. Retailers and wholesalers select these items based on factors such as price, margin, durability, fast-moving potential, end-customer demand, and, of course, the brand’s influence. These products are then stocked in one or more shops for consumers to purchase. Sometimes, consumers don’t have many options, as the choice has already been made by wholesalers or retailers. While much emphasis is placed on consumer choice and behavioral patterns, building a brand image among retailers is also critical for certain categories. When wholesalers and retailers trust your brand, they are more likely to prioritize stocking your products, knowing they meet consumer expectations and market trends. They are also more likely to invest in marketing and promotional efforts for brands they believe in, increasing product visibility and driving sales.

We recently had the privilege of participating in the research symposium organized by the Market Research Society of Sri Lanka (MRSSL), where Aadhithan Mahendran presented one of the most impactful and methodologically rigorous studies conducted by Sparkwinn in recent years.
This study marks the completion of a significant, long-running research initiative commissioned by our client, Gojo.
Over the past three years (2021–2024), we have conducted an in-depth exploration of the financial behaviors of economically vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka, with the goal of promoting meaningful financial inclusion.

For this study, we employed the financial diary method, where respondents recorded their daily financial transactions. Our enumerators visiting every week to collect details. Sparkwinn team then digitized this data, enabling advanced analytics to uncover deeper insights. We collected and analyzed over 300,000 individual transactions from 100+ households across rural and semi-urban areas of Sri Lanka.

The findings from this extensive study are poised to provide valuable insights for microfinance institutions, policymakers, and organizations looking to develop more inclusive financial programs tailored to underserved communities.

Grocery shops are still an important channel through which products reach the customers. Sometimes customers buy the products which retailers pick. Some instances they ask for recommendations. For a brand to push their product to customers they need to make sure retailers wholeheartedly buy your products. So giving them extra margins, free products etc influence positively on your product. So, brands need to get a sense on what retailers think about your brand.. Independent research could bring such insights.
