ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் தீவின் பல பகுதிகளில் இருந்து அதிக எண்ணிக்கையிலான மக்கள் ஹட்டன் நகரம் வழியாக ஸ்ரீ பாத வணக்கத்திற்காக பயணிக்கின்றனர். இந்த பக்தர்களுக்குத் தேவையான வசதிகள் வழங்கப்படுகின்றன; அதே நேரத்தில், இவர்கள் வருகை தருவதால், இந்த பகுதிக்கான பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சிக்கும் நல்லதொரு பங்களிப்பை அளிக்க முடியும் என என்னுடைய நம்பிக்கையாகும்.

நகரத்திற்குச் சேவை செய்வதே உண்மையான நோக்கமாக இருந்தால், நகர வளர்ச்சி குறித்து எமது தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட பிரதிநிதிகள் சிந்தித்து நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம். சற்று சிந்தித்து பாருங்கள் — நாட்டின் பல கிராம, நகர பகுதிகள் முன்னாள் நிலைமையைவிட சிறிதளவாவது மேம்பட்டு வளர்ச்சி அடைந்துள்ள இந்த நேரத்தில், ஹட்டன் நகரம் பல தசாப்தங்களாக ஒரே இடத்தில் நிலைத்து நிற்கிறது. இது நகர சபைக்கு ஆட்சி அதிகாரம் இருந்த காலங்களிலும் அதுவே நிலை, இல்லாதபோதும் அதே நிலையே. தவறு எங்கே ஏற்பட்டது? சிந்தியுங்கள்.

If serving the city is indeed the true purpose, our elected representatives must think about urban development and take necessary action. Just think for a moment — while many villages and towns across the country have improved and developed to some extent from their previous state, Hatton city has been stagnant in the same place for decades. This has been the case whether the city council had governance power or not. Where did things go wrong? Think about it.
