We are born as caterpillars…with all the physical, mental and spiritual attributes to one day become butterflies. But in order to become all the gloriousness that we are destined to be, we need to completely isolate ourselves for some time like the caterpillar, inside a virtual (and sometimes physical), cocoon. I believe that it is in this ‘Cocoon period’ that we really transform and grow. When we are alone and spend a lot of time with ourselves, we learn about our selves and also bring out the best and worst in ourselves. The Angels and the Demons.

This is when we shed the notion of who are, who we think we are and who other people think we are (just like how all the others who see the caterpillar think that it is just meant to be a caterpillar for the rest of its life). This is when we bring out all the talents hidden inside of us all this time, and give ourselves the love, care and attention that is needed to understand who we really are and learn to accept ourselves for who we really are.

So, the next time you feel like the Walls are closing-in around you, and there is a nasty feeling in your tummy. Don’t fear, its just life slowly pushing you into your cocoon so that you can re-invent yourself, and sometimes even be reborn as we whole new version of your self…the person that you were always meant to be. But it takes some time on your own and it might mean that you will have to kill certain aspect of you, so that you can make way for the new thoughts and world views to occupy your consciousness. Let them Die…and let the Glorious and Beautiful new you be born.

Was watching the news while having lunch, all about the situation in the middle-east.

Can't help but feel blessed to be in Sri Lanka right now and for being born here. Despite all the f**k-ups that this country has, we really don't appreciate how good we have it (in relation to the chaos and suffering that people in some countries continue to endure).

Today is World Mental Health Day, let's look around and be thankful about why our lives are NOT f**ked-up, as opposed to obsessing and stressing about things that...in the larger context, trivial.

It is often said and widely accepted that no matter how wealthy or poor you are, whether you live in a Mansion or a Hut, whether you eat Kadala or Caviar for breakfast, drive a Maserati or a Maruti, work in investment banking or on a river bank, wear a Rolex or a Casio, at the end of it all, Death comes to all of us in the end and in that respect we are all equal!

There is one more time where the Rich man and the poor man become equal…or at least what they have to offer become equal and the poor man is as, or even more, powerful than the Rich man...

Been doing the whole Marketing and Branding thing for some time now, and this is my perception, interpretation, experience and practice of Marketing and Branding. It's still all about the people, and I reckon that it's going to be all about the people, for a very long time.

My area of passions is Personal branding and the below guide has served me well time and time again since I was a teenager working the Interact club scene in school and during the past 20+ years in corporate...and life in general.

There is a lot in a name, make sure that you take the time and make the effort to say it, learn and and remember it!

The ideal situation for a man or woman to die, is to have family members praying with them, as they cross over.

But imagine being on your deathbed, and standing around your bed are the ghosts of the dreams, the ideas, the abilities given to you by life that you, for whatever reason…you never pursued those dreams, you never acted in those ideas, you never used those abilities and there they are looking at you with large angry eyes saying “we came to YOU…only YOU could have given us life…and now, we must die with you Forever”.

The question is..if you die today…what dreams, what ideas, what gifts…will die with you???!!!

From EMPTY-HEADS to MIND-FULL | The MindFull Journey

Let’s take a step back and observe what is going on around us, the people and situations that we encounter on a daily basis. Starting from the Mad Morning rush of the family at home, the maniac Bus drivers, Suicidal Tuk drivers and Zombie-like corporate executives who are on the road, the people at office who barely raise their head to respond to the Good Morning greeting, gulping down (or skipping) breakfast, haphazard lunch and the mad traffic death race back home where we complain about what a horrible fu***ng day we had and how we can’t wait to do it all over again tomorrow. We are all largely unconscious...not brain unconscious...spiritually unconscious. We are MIND-LESS!

MINDFULL ventures aspires to be the catalyst of instigating and inculcating a culture of Mindfulness in our lives. And since work, and getting to and from work constitutes a large part of our lives, we aim to inspire conscious and mindful interactions and transactions among colleagues, customers, partners, competitors, and most importantly Individuals. Here’s how we got here...

‘EMPTY HEADS’ - in 2013, this is what I though that this would be a suave name for a Creative business, if I ever started one. I thought that it will be a great conversation starter when we meet people and they see the business card. Turns out, this name reflected who I was at that time in my life, my Dreams, Aspirations and most importantly my spirituality. It took good old Pushups and a German-born Spiritual teacher to get me out of my emotional dungeon...from being an Empty-head to Mind-full.

My name is Thushan Jayaratne...and MindFull ventures (MF for short - yes just imagine all the pun branding I can do with this), is the latest chapter in my personal journey of Mindfulness. Giving up meat in 2013 was a First step toward Mindfulness. I strongly believe that everyone that comes into our lives, for a reason. There are no Insignificant people or things in our lives, we just don’t pay attention or don’t see the impact at that moment. My ultimate decision to give up meat was largely influenced by Dr. Harsha Subasinghe, CEO of CodeGen International and the man behind VEGA, Sri Lanka’s own Electric Super Car. In hindsight, every encounter in my life so far has been with purpose.
