St. Paul Bridge Youth Association - SPBYA Scholarship Fund Drive Receives Financial Pledges and Training Opportunities from Key Stakeholders
‎
Monrovia, Liberia — September 19, 2026: The St. Paul Bridge Youth Association (SPBYA) has successfully concluded its Scholarship and Vocational Training Fund Drive, receiving financial commitments, educational materials, and vocational training opportunities from stakeholders, institutions, community leaders, and other partners.
‎
The fund drive, held on September 19, 2026, at the St. Paul Bridge Town Hall, brought together residents, philanthropists, community leaders, well-wishers, and other stakeholders to support the Association’s initiative aimed at helping deserving young people in the community access education and vocational training opportunities.
‎
‎ During the program, several individuals and stakeholders made financial and material commitments toward the initiative. Among those supporting the fund drive were Hon. Samuel Weah and Randy Nyenpan, who pledged financial support.
‎
Alphonsus Wiah donated educational materials (3 cartoons of copybooks) and pledged to provide free internet access for students in the community, along with financial support toward the initiative.

Ms. Harriet M. Bandiyo and Mr. Paul Y. Moiweh also made cash contributions to the scholarship fund drive.
‎
Several vocational training institutions and individuals also pledged support by providing training opportunities for young people.
‎
‎Mrs. Sarah Nyon pledged financial support and offered a scholarship opportunity for vocational training at her institution in St. Paul Bridge.
‎
‎Mr. S. Royal Howard ( Royal Boss ), through the Royal Events Institute, pledged to provide unlimited training opportunities in decoration and catering. His support also includes providing training materials for participants, allowing young people to acquire practical skills without the additional burden of purchasing training materials themselves.
‎
‎Mr. Abdu A. Kamara pledged 100 training slots at the Liberia Institute of Health & Technology, The slots include 25 computer training opportunities and 75 slots for other vocational trades.
‎
‎ Speaking during the program, the Chair of the St. Paul Bridge Youth Association’s Educational Committee, Momo S. Nah , expressed appreciation to the stakeholders and participants for their presence and support for the scholarship fund drive and youth empowerment initiative.
‎
The Chair of the Association’s Program and Planning Committee, Ms. Sophia Tinneh Wreh, also extended profound appreciation to everyone whose contributions and participation helped make the fund drive a success.
‎
‎The St. Paul Bridge Youth Association says it will continue engaging stakeholders and mobilizing additional support to ensure that the commitments made during the fund drive are translated into tangible educational and vocational opportunities for beneficiaries.
‎
The Association is also calling on additional partners, individuals, businesses, institutions, philanthropists, and well-wishers to join the initiative as it works to provide sustainable educational and vocational opportunities for young people in the St. Paul Bridge community.

Applauds Speaker Koon's Office for Pledging LRD$600,000 to Scholarship Fund Drive

‎Monrovia, Liberia — September 19, 2026: The St. Paul Bridge Youth Association (SPBYA) has expressed appreciation to the Office of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon , for pledging an initial LRD$600,000 (Six Hundred Thousand Liberian Dollars) toward the Association’s Scholarship and Vocational Training Fund Drive.
‎
‎The pledge was announced during the Association’s scholarship fund drive held at the St. Paul Bridge Town Hall, where community stakeholders, institutions, youth leaders, and other partners gathered to support efforts aimed at expanding educational and vocational training opportunities for young people in the St. Paul Bridge community.
‎
‎ Speaking on behalf of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon as keynote speaker and chief launcher, the Speaker’s Media and Communications Adviser, Mr. V Vehzelee Sumo said the Speaker appreciated the invitation from the St. Paul Bridge Youth Association and recognized the importance of the initiative to youth development.
‎
‎Mr. Sumo said the Speaker was pleased with the Association’s initiative and, through his office, had pledged an initial LRD$600,000 toward the scholarship fund drive.
‎
‎Acknowledging the pledge on behalf of the St. Paul Bridge Youth Association, President Lorenzo Buford Sarkor expressed gratitude to Speaker Koon and his office for supporting the educational aspirations of young people in the community.
‎
‎President Sarkor said the pledged support would strengthen the Association’s efforts to provide educational opportunities and empower young people who may otherwise face financial barriers to pursuing their studies and vocational training.
‎
‎The St. Paul Bridge Youth Association reaffirmed its commitment to educational empowerment and youth development, emphasizing that investment in education and skills training is essential to creating greater opportunities for young people and advancing the development of the St. Paul Bridge community.
‎
‎The Association is also encouraging individuals, institutions, businesses, community leaders, philanthropists, and well-wishers to support the Scholarship and Vocational Training Fund Drive as it continues its efforts to provide sustainable educational opportunities for young people.

Could Kemayah and others go to jail in Saudi-donated 29,412 bags of rice trial? “No Rice Came Here,” Lakpazee Community Chairman Denies Receiving Saudi Rice

The Kemayah Rice Distribution Committee in conjunction with the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) says they donated Saudi rice to the Lakpazee Community through the community chairman, but the chairman of Lakpazee has denied in court that he has no knowledge of any rice donation or distribution.

Lakpazee Community Chairman Isaac K. Wedee has told Criminal Court “C” that his community did not receive any of the Saudi-donated rice.

Taking the witness stand, Wedee said he did not receive rice from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and he was not aware of anyone in Lakpazee receiving any.

He also confirmed a statement he earlier gave to the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce, in which he denied that the community received the rice.

Wedee said Lakpazee is made up of seven blocs, each headed by a block leader. He told the court that if relief supplies were brought into the community, the leaders would normally know about them and take part in their distribution.

Defense lawyers questioned how certain Wedee could be about his statement, asking whether he had spoken with all seven block leaders before talking to investigators.

The court also heard that 5,000 bags of rice reportedly meant for the Gbarnga Regional Hub never arrived there. A witness said 280 bags were the largest single donation received at the hub.

The trial involves former Foreign Affairs Minister Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, former deputy foreign affairs official Thelma Sawyer, NDMA officials and others accused of offenses including theft of property, economic sabotage, misuse of public resources and abuse of office.

The defendants have denied the allegations and remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty, while the prosecution is required to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
