Freshness or Facade?”
Insiders, Consumers Question Liberian American Poultry’s Claims

By Staff Reporter

Monrovia, Liberia – Liberian American Poultry (LAP) continues to promote itself as a symbol of modern agriculture—offering “freshness you can trust” from a large, automated facility. But interviews with workers and consumers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, paint a more complicated picture—one marked by questions, inconsistencies, and growing skepticism.“We hear the claims—but we don’t see everything they describe”
A worker familiar with operations at the facility said the company’s public image does not fully reflect day-to-day realities.
“They talk about strict standards and automation, but not everything is as advanced as they make it sound. Some processes are still very manual, and sometimes the pressure is just to keep production moving,” the worker alleged.
Another individual with knowledge of the operations raised concerns about transparency:
“We are told to maintain cleanliness, yes—but there’s no clear communication about certifications or external inspections. Even workers don’t always know what standards are being followed.”
These claims could not be independently verified, and LAP has not publicly released detailed inspection or certification reports.

Consumers Raise Eyebrows
Several consumers in Monrovia said they have mixed feelings about LAP products.
One local egg seller noted:
“The eggs are available and people buy them, but customers still ask questions. Some want to know where exactly they come from and how fresh they really are.”
Another consumer was more direct:
“We hear ‘modern facility’ all the time, but we don’t see proof. In Liberia, people have learned not to trust big claims without evidence.”
While no widespread health complaints have been documented, the lack of independent verification continues to fuel doubt.

Operating in a Challenging Environment
Liberia’s poultry sector remains vulnerable to disease outbreaks and regulatory gaps, making strict adherence to safety standards critical.
A livestock sector observer, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the issue, warned:
“Any large poultry operation must be extremely transparent. Without regular public reporting, it’s difficult to assess risk—not just for consumers, but for the entire industry.”
Transparency Under Pressure
LAP has also faced public scrutiny at the policy level, with lawmakers previously reviewing aspects of its investment agreement. While not directly tied to product quality, the scrutiny adds to broader concerns about accountability and openness.

Right of Reply:

However, LAP has not provide specific publicly verifiable certification records or detailed inspection reports at the time of publication, as this media look forward to it.

Confidence must be backed by clear, verifiable proof.
Until that happens, the debate continues:
Is Liberian American Poultry delivering on its promises—or asking the public to trust without seeing

Monrovia City Corporation Mayor, John Siafa Rejects former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s Statement That the "City of Monrovia Is Dirty"

He Writes ✍️ ✍️ 👇...

"I respectfully disagree with former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s claim that Monrovia is “filthy.” While more collective effort is still needed, the city has improved notably.

The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) continues daily and night cleaning despite limited resources, keeping Monrovia and surrounding areas cleaner than before.

Ellen on Corruption and Bilateral Support

“It is time to address this corruption issue in a serious way. It is not getting better. We thought we had put a curb on corrupton by establishing integrity institutions. The leadership must seriously address it. The world is changing. The requirements for development are moving into different directions. There’s a decline in partnership and baleteral support. It is time to change.” H.E. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Former President, Liberia

‎Simeon Freeman Condemns Boakai Over ‘Rampant Corruption,’ Urges Voters to Reject Him in 2029, Says he is best suited for the job...

The ‎Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) political leader Simeon Freeman has sharply criticized President Joseph Boakai, accusing his administration of rampant corruption and urging Liberians to vote him out in the 2029 presidential election.

‎Speaking Wednesday April 29 at Center for the Exchange of Intellectual Opinions in Monrovia, Freeman claimed that President Boakai appeared very sick and weak during the 2023 elections but is now “stealing and enjoying the Liberian people’s money” while in office.

‎ Freeman argued that the current administration has failed to meet public expectations and said Liberians must use the 2029 elections to remove Boakai from power.

“I don’t see the criteria of creating additional seats, I don’t see the argument that support this, I don’t see the resources. I think what we should be thinking about is to support more women in the house come 2029 instead of calling for the creation of more seats”.

“I don’t think someone should be expelled because of freedom of speech”, Former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf reacts to Yekeh Kolubah’s expulsion.

“…I don’t think this is the way to go. I don’t think someone should be expelled because of freedom of speech. I signed the independence of freedom of speech. I don’t think someone should be overly disturbed when people say things. I certainly do not think it should be a reason for someone to bear such penalty. There are other ways to curb that. Freedom of speech is something that we must respect. That's what makes good governance." Ex-President EJS

EPA Announces Shutdown of Illegal Class “B” Gold Mining Operations by Nugget Era Mining Company in Gbarpolu County

Monrovia, Liberia — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia announces decisive enforcement action against Nugget Era Mining Company for operating a large-scale Class “B” gold mining operation in Gbelee Town, Gbarpolu County, without a valid Environmental Permit, in direct violation of Liberia’s Environmental Protection and Management Law (EPML).

A comprehensive EPA compliance inspection conducted in February, 2026, confirmed that Nugget Era Mining was conducting extensive mining activities across 32 claims without environmental authorization.

The inspection identified a fully functional mining camp with continuous day-and-night excavation, posing significant environmental risks to Zorballa Creek and downstream communities that rely on its water resources. Investigators found that the company had not completed the legally required permitting process, despite acknowledging that no valid permit had been issued.

In response, the EPA immediately ordered Nugget Era Mining to cease all mining, excavation, and hauling operations, secure all equipment and operational areas, and prevent further sediment discharge or environmental contamination.

For resumption of operations, Nugget Era Mining was ordered to fully comply with Liberia’s environmental regulations, including the submission and approval of a comprehensive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), the development and implementation of an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), site rehabilitation strategies and water protection measures, as well as workforce disclosures.

On April 29, 2026, an EPA enforcement team led by the Inspector General, with support from the Liberia National Police, executed the Compliance Order on-site.

Three hydraulic mining machines were impounded, and EPA inspectors documented unsafe environmental practices, including unrehabilitated open pits and the absence of progressive mining measures.

The Liberia Immigration Service attempted to verify documentation for foreign workers on-site; however, no records were produced.

The EPA cautions that continued non-compliance will invoke stronger legal remedies, including further confiscation of equipment, additional administrative penalties, and full prosecution under the EPML.

The EPA reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to protecting Liberia’s environment and ensuring that all natural resource exploitation occurs within the boundaries of national law, environmental sustainability, and community safety.

Liberia’s natural resources must be developed responsibly, legally, and sustainably. No entity, regardless of size or ownership, is above the environmental laws of Liberia.

The EPA remains steadfast in safeguarding Liberia’s ecosystems, water bodies, and communities from unlawful and environmentally harmful activities.
