Tragic Passing of United Methodist University President

Monrovia, Liberia It is with deep sorrow that the United Methodist University (UMU) community mourns the passing of President Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Bailey. Dr. Bailey died just hours after being rushed to AMI Hospital following a fall in his office at the university.

In light of this tragic event, Mr. James A. Kromah, Vice President for Administration, has announced the suspension of academic activities at UMU. Midterm exams originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday will now take place on Tuesday and Thursday, December 2 and 3, 2025. 🚨NEWS UPDATE 📌

Labour Ministry Revokes Work Permits of Three Chinese Nationals

The Ministry of Labour has revoked the work permits of three Chinese nationals in B**g County for violating Liberia’s labour laws by taking jobs reserved for Liberians. Following a surprise inspection at B**g Mines, inspectors found them engaged in general labour tasks that should be filled by qualified Liberians.

Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing Liberian workers for non-specialized roles and announced increased nationwide inspections to ensure compliance with the Decent Work Act. This action aims to protect job opportunities for Liberians and enhance labour governance.

Employers are warned to adhere to all labour regulations regarding the hiring of foreign workers, with strict penalties for violations.
