STATEMENT BY THE MANAGEMENT OF THE SPORTS REPORTERS ASSOCIATION OF LESOTHO (SRAL)
The Sports Reporters Association of Lesotho (SRAL) wishes to inform the public, sporting authorities, and all stakeholders that SRAL is a legally registered association in accordance with the laws and protocols of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
SRAL has noted with concern the public outcry regarding the conduct of a so-called sports journalist who was reportedly involved in a conflict with the fourth official during the football match between Matlama FC and Limkokwing University FC played on 7 February 2026. The Association wishes to clearly distance itself from that action and any conduct that undermines professionalism, respect, and the integrity of sport.
The mandate of SRAL is to promote professionalism, safeguard the welfare, and protect the interests of its members, while upholding ethical standards in sports journalism. Our members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional, responsible, and ethical manner at all times, particularly during sporting activities in stadiums and other sporting environments.
SRAL recognizes and respects the authority of the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) and other relevant sporting bodies to take appropriate action where any individual engages in unacceptable conduct. Where such matters involve a verified member of SRAL, the Association will cooperate fully and take appropriate internal measures in accordance with its constitution and disciplinary procedures.
It is important to emphasize that the Constitution of the Kingdom of Lesotho guarantees individuals the right to freely associate with any organization of their choice. Membership in SRAL is voluntary, and not every journalist operating in Lesotho is a member of SRAL. Verified SRAL members possess valid SRAL membership cards as proof of their affiliation.
SRAL does not condone any unprofessional, unethical, or irresponsible conduct that may bring the profession of sports journalism or the integrity of sport into disrepute. The Association remains committed to promoting discipline, professionalism, and mutual respect among all stakeholders in sport.
SRAL remains dedicated to working collaboratively with sporting authorities, stakeholders, and the broader media fraternity to promote the growth, credibility, and professionalism of sports journalism in Lesotho.
