Introducing our Woman Crush for today:
Mookho Moqhali is a lawyer and award winning Afro-Jazz, Neo-Soul, Afro-Pop and Gospel musician from Lesotho who lives in the United Kingdom. Born in 1984, Mookho started singing at the age of 13. Her first multi-genre debut album “Ha re eeng Hae“ in 2015 revealed her as a talented artist. A year later, her single “Ba ile” earned her an award in Best Jazz Artist and album in the Ultimate Music Awards. This was followed by a hit Afro-Sotho pop single in collaboration with the legendary Puseletso Seema “Mphe Mphe e a Lapisa” in 2017, launched in 2018.

She has performed alongside American musicians such as Maya Acuzena, Dancehall Artist Lenny Kurlou in Washington DC. Mookho who founded Acculturation of Health and Development (AHD) a non-governmental organisation focused on empowering women and unemployed youth from institutions of higher learning speaks to Green Savannah Diplomatic Cable, about her career, AHD and other issues.

Looking at hee career:
It was initially by default because of her flawed tertiary system. She had applied for a different course but was admitted into the law faculty. Throughout the years of study and experience, she did not only learn to love it, but she had discovered various specialties within law that caught my interest. She developed an interest in public health and medical law, which started her off on a volunteerism with the Ministry of Health in 2008, finalised her Masters in Medical Law and Ethics with University of Kent and has no regrets to a choice of speciality so far.

She founded Acculturation of Health and Development (AHD), it is a non-governmental organisation focused on empowering women and employs youth from institutions of higher learning. The organisation has been funded by national and international donors to host annual leadership trainings for youth and capacity building workshops. She has worked with local companies and respective government ministries to secure brailed and audio resources for study of children who are partially and visually sighted. The organisation held empowerment seminar for women in the creative arts industry on the dynamics of starting and growing a career in the arts industry as women.

Her career in the media space began early 2019 as a TV Host for a Vodacom Sponsored Local Music Talent Search Show “Step Up Lesotho”. Shortly after that, she hosted the Official Launch of the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games, and also did some branding work affiliated with the Méthodé Cap Classique (MCC) brand. “Currently, I am working for an American company that aims to solve the healthcare crisis in the US. My job is to develop their digital presence by raising awareness of the organization's mission, attracting new supporters, and increasing its impact across the US. On the other hand, I am developing my own brand & creating my own content & I love every aspect of it,” she tells us.
When asked what inspired her?
“Initially it was the creativity and storytelling aspects of media production. I found myself researching what goes into making movies, creating music videos, and what it takes to be a public speaker,” Morakane responds.

We asked her about her most notable moments.
She tells us, “Working for an American company during an era of high unemployment rates, anchoring a whole national TV show, developing a digital presence for well-renowned local corporate companies and working on the growth of my personal brand and developing its digital footprint.”

TMT: Mr Letsie, what are your areas of focus? how did you commence in the industry? what inspired you? What does the future hold for you?

Mr Letsie:
"I think I started around 2015. I think by that time a good friend and sister of mine Ntsubise Mopeli Mohale was already commemorating dates that were significant to the royal family. So I was like this is a great idea but I felt it should incorporate everyone every incident.

Besides, I was struggling to find anything about Lesotho’s history on the internet as a whole, whether written content or pictures.

So it dawned on me that I should make it a point I glean vintage and never before seen pictures of Basotho on the internet.

And I’m proud to say some of the images of political leaders and other Basotho in general that are now used even by the main stream media were first published by me. That’s an honour.

I think I was mostly inspired by websites such as Israeli Military History, South African Military History and South African History Online.

If you want detailed narratives of major battles that took place in Lesotho you’d find them in the pages of South African Military History.

The detailed account of Basotho during World War II are also well documented in the Israeli Military History page.

And I was like, we need to have an online silo of our documented history. My goal is that it should be documented digitally.

What future holds is anybody’s guess we can only aspire and vouch on God’s mightiness to materialize.."

WCW.

Mpeoane Mahase, popularly known as AprilBarbie (born 03 April), is Mosotho television presenter, radio personality, actress and social media personality. Born in Maseru, she is known for her flamboyant presenting skills and her signature voice. April presented the music show Urban Jams alongside Rated R in the early 2000. This paved her way to the spotlight in the industry. She also presented a radio show on Ultimate Radio. She did all this a a volunteer for many years until she decided to look for greener pastures.

April got her education from Primary at Katleho Primary School, then later shifted to Unity English Medium School. Did her high school at Lesotho High School and obtained her Associate degree in Radio and tv broadcasting at Limkokwing University.

After her completion, she pushed so hard to make a living with her talent but during those times, the media industry was non existent. However as the very ambitious girl she is, she opted to do something else, she invaded the beauty industry, became a self thought make up artist as well as nail technician. She then opened her own shop in the heart of Maseru, where she did all this and sold clothes as well. As a make up artist she did the gorgeous face of the famous Tsholo Motsie. However circumstances led to the shop shutting down.

After this incident April moved back to SA in pursuit of flourishing her career. She then joined impulse radio, an online radio station based in the heart of Sandton, fourways, impulse radio. Still as a volunteer and when she saw no hope she moved to Cape Town with her then white boyfriend who she claims gave her a 5 star lifestyle she will never forget. But all things come to and end.

2 years later she moved back home, and it wasn’t easy as she had to start from point one. However hee pulsating desire to make it made her push through regardless. She got her first job as a waitress at the former club266, and started getting recognition because she just had that outstanding thing about her, she later on was made MC at the same club but left due to reasons she refuses to expose.

However this seemed to have been a great move for April. She started getting booked left right centre and has shown so much dedication to her work. She shared the stage with young Stunna at the massive Shelly brown carwash earlier this year. She recently shared the stage with Patrick Motsoene as an MC at the grand Lesotho Fashion Week, she’s hosted the very popular Mo

Rorisang Big Bear Tlebere

He shares with us how he got into Gate Control and Management.

Often the difference between “Security” and “Gate Control and Management” is often blurred, Tlebere tells us the difference between the two, “Security deals with overall Event security, meanwhile, Gate control and crowd management deals with smooth access to the event, smooth to ticket redemption and Effective/honest cash handling” he offers.

“It all started back in 2012 when I was recruited as a brand ambassador/Promoter for Vodacom Lesotho, gradually Vodacom Lesotho got into events and that's where everything started for me.my first gate control gig was with summa Fever and I never looked back,” says Tlebere.

“It is from all that experience amassed from Vodacom summer fevas that I eventually decided that I am really good with handling the gate and the crowd,” he further adds.

“Challenges vary from event to event......but challenges I've come across are 1) People constantly asking for a decreased gate charge
2)Unrully intoxicated party attendees
3)The weather is one the most biggest challenges we face in this industry.
But mostly it's smooth sailing for me personally” when speaking about the challenges he’s faced.

Enthusiasm takes you where Talent alone can't

"No one keeps up his Enthusiasm automatically. Enthusiasm must be nourished with new actions, new aspirations, new efforts and new vision. It's your own fault if you're enthusiasm is gone you have failed to feed it" Papyrus reminded us
What's enthusiasm? Henry Chester answered "nothing more or less than faith in action."

"Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm" Winston Churchill says.
