In previous post we were talking about video editing, and today we’d like to speak about B-Roll.
What’s the difference between A-Roll and B-Roll? 🧐
A-Roll can be considered your main story, but B-Roll is supplemental or alternative footage that’s intercut with your main shots. 😉📽
You can also make B-Roll to fill gaps in your story, or use it between different scenes, avoiding jump cuts.

To make process of filming B-Roll you have to:
⭐️ Make a plan to organize your shots
⭐️ Spice up your footage using in-camera transitions
⭐️ Use slowmo or time-lapse effect for more dramatic or dynamic shots
⭐️ Use gimbal or dolly to make your shots more smooth
⭐️ During editing pay attention to the soundtrack and sound effects to emphasize your story

You get the real enjoyment bringing your story board into live. 😏👌🏻
Each videographer has his own rules, tips and tricks, here’s some to share:
🎞 Try to stay away from jump cuts. A jump cut is an montage technique, when the camera position practically doesn’t change, you can used that method, but it may seems a little bit boring, so, try to change the angle of viewing your subject/person, or at least in your scene.
🎞 Cut on motion. You can use that method not only to cut between things in the same scene, but also way to cut something else entirely. That gives flow and presents an attention of grabbing effect.
🎞 The . This rule typically applies the situations of dialogue between two or more people. Keep in thought, you have to shoot your material properly in advance. For example, make over the shoulder shot, so your audience can keep understand of where are characters looking, related to the scene you are putting them.
🎞 Movement directions. That may seems less obvious, but actually has a big impact in your production. Generally, we tend to see things moving left to right ➡️, as moving forward (for example, character is traveling to new location, or maybe moving to a new life situation), showing reverse - right to left ⬅️, as moving backwards, you give regressing signals to your audience (for example, character changes his decision, or turning home from abroad).
