To correct misconceptions only, let us discuss journalist Rahmouni with respect, using evidence and reasoning, because the problem lies in the educational curricula.
βBerberβ is a word that means βsavages,β and it has nothing to do with the Amazigh people.
Being a Muslim does not necessarily mean being an Arab. According to that faulty logic, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Malaysia would all be considered Arab!
What is meant by saying that we are βdiminishing our Arab identityβ? This is a misunderstanding. The identity of the land is Amazigh, and when we speak of the identity of a country, it is a single identityβnot multiple identities.
As for the word βBerberβ in its ancient origin, it does not carry the same meaning it does today. And speaking Arabic or mastering the Arabic language does not make you an Arab, because language is only a means of communication. If that were the case, Mexicans and most Latin American peoples would be Spaniards!
Before concluding:
Speaking in the pluralββWe are Arabsββreduces all of us to being fully Arab, and this is impossible. Speaking individually, yes, it is possible: if you want to be Arab, that is a personal decision, a legitimate right, and we respect your choiceβbut without generalizing it to everyone.
From a civilizational perspective, Morocco has a deep historical heritageβone that any nation would wish for.
There are states, and there are civilizations.
