We are hiring for a minimum of 3 months position as part of the Stellar Clusters in southern Collisional Ring Galaxy (SC2RG) Survey, starting from February 2024. The project will provide undergraduate students majoring in Physics, Mathematics and related fields as well as postgraduate students enrolled in Astrophysics with the opportunity to work with Dr. Zara Randriamanakoto and astronomy graduate students who conduct cutting-edge research in observational astronomy.
As a reminder, the SC2RG Survey aims at investigating the effects of the host environment on the star cluster formation and evolution mechanisms by studying young massive star clusters (YMCs) hosted by a selected sample of collisional ring galaxies (CRGs). Successful applicants will help analyse and reduce multi-wavelength data observed with telescopes such as the recently launched James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) and the South African SKA precursor MeerKAT telescope. The research will be under the supervision of Dr. Zara Randriamanakoto who is a research astronomer at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and a visiting lecturer at the University of Antananarivo. The project is funded by the National Geographic Society.
Do you have basic knowledge in Python or similar programming tools?
Are you interested in learning how to use new astronomy software?
