🏥 We asked 400 people in Malta how they actually access healthcare. The answers say a lot.
👉 70.3% go to a private GP first for a non-emergency issue; only 18.3% start at a public Health Centre.
👉 65.8% have no private health insurance… yet 86.3% of them still paid for private care at least once last year.
👉 35% needed an examination or treatment in the past year and didn't get it. For 72% of them, the reason was the waiting list.
👉 43.5% waiting for a Mater Dei specialist waited more than six months. Only 6.6% were seen within one month.
👉 At A&E, 57.6% waited five hours or more and 25.1% waited over eight.
Malta has a free public healthcare system. But for most people, the first stop is private and the bill is personal. 💶
