Activist Michaela Pia Camilleri has launched 'Overtouristed Malta'—an Instagram page highlighting the daily squeeze and campaigning against unsustainable tourism.
"We are way too small for this quantity," she says, calling for a cap on tourist numbers to protect residents' quality of life.

🙏 Nothing short of a miracle
Eight firework enthusiasts from Fontana, Gozo, had an incredibly lucky escape from the devastating explosion at the Ta' Lourdes fireworks factory in Magħtab on Monday.
They were all heading to the factory to finish the fireworks for this weekend's feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Two of the men were already in Burmarrad—just FIVE minutes away from the factory when it blew up.
"Had it exploded an hour later, all eight Gozitans would have been blown to smithereens," a parishioner said.
While the Fontana feast will go ahead, it will understandably be much quieter this year. Read the full miraculous story here 👇

🚗 Unmarked roadworks lead to compensation order 🚧
The government agency Indis has been ordered to pay €740 after a driver’s Jaguar hit two unmarked, 20cm-deep uncovered drainage channels in the Xewkija industrial estate in Gozo back in 2021.
Despite Indis arguing it was impossible to inspect its 1,000+ sites daily and that works were done by third parties, a small claims tribunal ruled that the agency is legally responsible for maintaining the roads within industrial estates. The tribunal also noted the road was completely unlit at the time.
