‘Moving with the Wind, Like Waves’ is a contemporary art project set within the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu, designed to initiate a dialogue with the building’s rich, layered history.

Commissioned by Bank of Valletta and developed by curator Elyse Tonna, the project invited artists to create site-specific, process-based works that engage with the Inquisitor’s Palace by exploring themes that are often unseen, undocumented, or unspoken.

The project’s graphic language draws inspiration from the numerous alterations and irregular layout of the Inquisitor’s Palace. These fluid forms serve a dual purpose: they represent the main initials: M (Moving), W (Wind), and W (Waves) and correspond to the three overarching chapters of the curatorial concept. Each form is dynamic, continuously morphing and shifting into a new iteration.

From these three core fluid shapes, six additional shapes are generated, resulting in a total of nine forms, which corresponds to the number of sub-thematics of the project.

THE SHIP (Unseen) continues the narrative established by I WILL FOLLOW THE SHIP, which was Malta’s National Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale. This exhibition forms part of Art Council Malta’s ‘Retold’ programme, celebrating its 10th anniversary.

For this edition, the graphic identity has been updated to differentiate it from the original pavilion work presented at the 2024 Venice Art Biennial, featuring new custom letterforms and a distinct colour palette.

The exhibition Where Silence Holds showcased the work of multidisciplinary artists to challenge stereotypes and explore the more subdued, often overlooked aspects of gender-based and domestic violence.

Visually, the graphic identity aimed to peel back surface layers to reveal a deeper truth beneath. Soft lines were intruduced in the design to evoke a feeling of recovery.

Spaces of Resistance (Spazi di Resistenza) is a potent poetic and political project. Coinciding with the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, this timely exhibition offers a profound reflection on the post-war present, exploring themes of trauma, healing, art, and memory. It specifically addresses pivotal events of the conflict, namely the siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica genocide.

The exhibition features six artists from diverse cultural, geographical, and generational backgrounds. Going beyond a mere historical analysis of the conflicts, the selected works—including video, photography, installation, and performance—delve into subjects ranging from geopolitical commentary to generative rituals. A central focus of the project is the profound connection to the Earth, which is conceived as a living, political, and spiritual entity.

The project’s identity employs an angular graphic. This design was created to amplify the force and transition between constantly shifting lines, thereby creating a visual sense of resistance.

Identities Beyond Borders (Identità Oltre Confine) is a travelling exhibition that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Farnesina Collection in Rome.

Through an intergenerational dialogue between emerging and established voices, the exhibition explores the relationship between humans and nature, analysing the effects of an anthropocentric system and offering diverse perspectives on our relationship with the environment.

The visual identity employs a dissected linear circle, which serves as a symbolic representation of the Earth and its natural cycles. This circle is separated into three segments, each dedicated to one of the exhibition’s central themes.

The project is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with Cities Art Projects.
