Malawi is set to host a national automotive and mobility conference aimed at shaping the future of the country’s transport sector. The Future of Cars Conference 2026 will take place on 7 March 2026 at the Apollo Auditorium in Blantyre, bringing together policymakers, engineers, transport experts, private sector players, and the general public.
Held under the theme “Innovation, Skills, Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility,” the conference will explore how Malawi can leverage modern vehicle technology, improved road safety measures, and skills development to support Vision 2063 — Malawi’s long-term development agenda for a prosperous, competitive, and inclusive nation driven by innovation and sustainable growth.
Organisers say the conference will provide a national platform to examine whether modern vehicles are suitable for Malawi’s current road infrastructure, fuel quality, and economic conditions, while also addressing the continued use of older vehicles on the country’s roads.
Conference Objectives
The conference seeks to promote safe, reliable, and sustainable mobility in line with Malawi’s national transport policies. It will also examine the suitability of modern vehicles for Malawi’s road conditions, fuel standards, and economic realities.
Another key objective is to strengthen technical capacity and skills development for engineers and automotive professionals, ensuring the country is prepared for evolving vehicle technologies. The event will further encourage public–private collaboration within the automotive and transport sectors.
Key Sessions and Panels
Participants will engage in several expert-led sessions and panel discussions, including:
Modern vs Older Vehicles: Safety, reliability, and economic impact

A highlight of the conference will be a National Debate Session addressing the question:
