Weather Update & Crop Variety Recommendations for Malawi Farmers (2025/26 Season)βοΈβοΈ

The rainy season is gaining momentum, and we've got the latest forecast from the *Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS)* π. Malawi is expected to receive *normal to above-normal rainfall* βοΈ, especially from January to March 2026. But watch out for possible dry spells βοΈ and higher temperatures π₯ in some districts!
*Agro-Ecological Zones of Malawi π*
1. High-altitude plateaus (cooler, reliable rainfall) βοΈ
2. Mid-altitude plateau (main farming areas, 800-1300m) πΎ
3. Lakeshore and upper valleys (warmer, variable) βοΈ
4. Lower Shire valley (hotter, lower rainfall) π₯
*Crop Recommendations by Region π*
*Northern Region* (Higher rainfall in some areas like Karonga; mid to high altitude) π
- _Karonga, Chitipa, Rumphi, Nkhata Bay, Mzimba_
_Maize_: SC 727 or DKC 8033 π½
_Soya_: Makwacha or Tikolole π½
_Groundnuts_: CG 7 or CG 9 π°
