Letโs be honest.
Hon. Chimwendo Richard William Banda is no saint. His arrogance, narrow politics, and regional posturing helped sink MCP when it mattered most. Many inside MCP know this. Many are angry. Some even blame him for the partyโs downfall.
Fine. That debate can wait.
But this is not the time to settle political scores.
Right now, Chimwendo Banda is not a power broker. He is not campaigning. He is not plotting. He is a man in custody, traumatized, accused in what looks and smells like a politically motivated case.
Attempted murder?
From what the public has seen so far, this is a weak, trivial case, inflated for one reason only: to break him.
And the saddest part?
His own party is silent.
MCP leaders and supporters have abandoned one of their own. No noise. No pressure. No solidarity. Just whispers and cowardly distance.
Even social commentators are mocking MCP. One compared Chimwendoโs treatment to that of Alfred Gangata, a self-confessed crook embraced and defended by his political family.
MCP couldnโt even offer emotional support.
This is selfishness at its worst.
Now letโs talk about the real scandal: the Judiciary and the DPP.
A bail application was filed.
Days have passed.
No ruling. No explanation. No urgency.
Why?
A bail ruling is not rocket science. It does not take weeks. It does not require endless contemplation. Either grant bail or deny it. Say it. Own it.
This delay is not justice.
It is punishment.
And it raises a disturbing question:
Is the Judge working hand-in-hand with the DPP to keep Chimwendo behind bars?
If courts are being used to quietly punish political opponents, then letโs stop pretending we have rule of law. This is abuse of discretion, plain and simple.
Judges are human. Some are lazy. Some hide behind โbacklogs.โ That excuse is tired.
Deadlines must be written into law for bail decisions.
No ruling within a set time? Then call it what it is: judicial failure.
MCP, this is where you must act.
Not with insults.
Not with violence.
With lawful civil pressure.
Demand a ruling. Demand clarity. Demand speed.
If the court wants to deny bail, let it say so openly. Let the nation judge.
But keeping a man on remand through silence is cruel, unlawful, and dangerous.
MCP faithfuls, stand up for your son, however flawed he may be.
If you want to punish him politically, do it at your convention.
Do not leave him to DPP wolves.
These are the same people who presided over the hunting, butchering, and dismembering of people with albinism.
If they could allow that horror, what makes you think Chimwendo is safe?
Never say you were not warned.
A court that takes over a week to decide a simple bail application undermines liberty, due process, and public trust.
It tells Malawians that justice is slow for someโand weaponized against others.
This is not just about Chimwendo Banda.
It is about the soul of our justice system.
And right now, it is failing.
Letโs be honest. Hon. Chimwendo Banda is no saint. His arrogance, narrow politics, and regional posturing helped sink MCP when it mattered most. Many inside MCP know this. Many are
