BIOGRAPHY OF EKCESS (FOUNDER OF MIKOZI)
Bright Chiligo popularly known as Ekcess is a Blantyre-based musician, producer, entrepreneur, events manager and promoter. He was born on March 2 in the early 90s (exact year unrevealed) in Lunzu, Blantyre. His father comes from Lunzu while his mom comes from Tsangano Village, TA Njolomole, Ntcheu.
Ekcess grew up in Blantyre and did all his education there. He went to Chichiri Secondary where he obtained his MSCE. Thereafter, he was selected to Polytechnic to do Bachelor's Degree in Business Studies. He finished in 2016 but he officially graduated in early 2017.
Musically, Ekcess started serious recording after writing his MSCE. In 2010, he founded a music group called Ill City. The group comprised of 8 members (6 males and 2 females) namely Ekcess, Fat Lu, Klick, Dice, Juniper, Fresh Prince, Vyper and Ka Sheena.
The crew started receiving radio airplay in 2011. Some of the songs that the group released include Wadya Ntoliro, Halamu, Mwalimba Mtima, Thriller, Swagga Updated and Rated Ill. As a sole artist, Ekcess did a number of songs including the hit titled Mesho.
Mikozi started whilst he was at the university. It started as events management team that consisted of him, his roommate (Kelvin Chimpeni) and one friend from Chanco. The idea was to organise their own music shows because they were not given chances to perform in different events organised at the institution and around the city. Then, they started organising their own events at Gymkhana Club (Zomba), Blue Elephant, Ozone Refreshment Centre and other places in Blantyre.
The events became successful. Consequently, other people started asking them to organise for them. Later, they stopped doing their own events and concentrated on management of other people's events.
Apart from Ekcess, other current members of Mikozi include audio producer and comedian Precious Kainga popularly known as Pastor Wayison or DJ Zimbabwe wa ku Malawi.
Currently, Mikozi has different social media handles that have contributed a lot to the revelation and development of talents.
