Dads, This One’s for You! (Section 47A) 👨‍🍼✨

Did you know that Mafadala in Malawi are now legally entitled to time off to bond with their new babies? The 2021 Amendment to the Employment Act, paternity leave is now a statutory right

The Rules for Mafadala:
1. The Benefit: You are entitled to at least two weeks (14 days) of paternity leave on full pay.
2. Frequency: You can claim this leave once every three years.
3. Protection: Just like maternity leave, your benefits and seniority continue uninterrupted while you are away

🔥 OVERTIME CALCULATIONS EXPLAINED 💰⏰

Let’s make overtime easy to understand 👇🏽

Example:
An employee earns MK120,000 per month and works 24 days a month, that is 6 days per week.

👉 Daily pay:
MK120,000 ÷ 24 = MK5,000 per day

👉 Hourly pay (based on 8 hours):
MK5,000 ÷ 8 = MK625 per hour

Now, how is overtime calculated?

✔ Ordinary overtime (extra hours on a working day) is calculated per normal wage per hour × 1.5

e.g. MK625 × 1.5 = MK937.50 per hour

✔ Day-off overtime (working on a rest day) is calculated per normal wage per hour × 2
e.g. MK625 × 2 = MK1,250 per hour

✔ Holiday overtime (working on a public holiday) is calculated per normal wage per hour × 2

e.g MK625 × 2 = MK1,250 per hour
