He estado trabajando en varias cosas (o puramente descansando) así que no he podido terminar algunas letritas que tengo cocinándose por ahí, pero recordé que tenía estas. Que no se diga que no dibujo cada que puedo 😂

Y sí, es también un recordatorio de que sigo vendiendo: lleve, lleve sus deliciosos brownies recién hechos.

Another key quality that I wanted to preserve from the main reference were these interlocking ligatures — for the moment I’ve just created the ones needed to replicate the “La Feria de las Flores” layout but I plan on expanding the set :)

I wanted to focus on language support, because most of us know the struggle of coming across a cursed notdef in an otherwise good enough font 🧐 still a work in progress because there are some diacritics left to be designed 🤠

Even though I based my design mostly in the La Feria de las Flores reference, I wanted to exaggerate the size of the serifs, create small apertures, keep a deliberate low-waist for the middle bars and find a more systemic approach for the thin segments. The concepts I was thinking of was drama, adventure and feelings of excitement (coming from the drama genre of Mexican movies).

The typeface on its own started to show an attribute that I didn’t quite expect but willingly embraced: not only did it looked dramatic, but it was actually starting to look kind of spooky, something that confirmed when he said that the letterforms, particularly the a, looked “quite scary and sharp” 🦇🧛🏻

I want to take a moment to thank and , the TAs of the summer term who were a big part of the development and iteration process, always giving great tips during classes but outside of it too! I appreciate how you were available the whole week to give feedback and help us sort out our reference requests and any design crisis 😅

Rosenda es una fuente display inspirada en carteles de películas del Cine de Oro mexicano. 💚🤍♥️

(I do love writing my own pangrams!)

So why “Rosenda”? During the visual research I did of classic Mexican movie posters, I narrowed down to similar styles of condensed uppercase serifs, and the one that stole my heart was from La Feria de Las Flores. This movie is considered Pedro Infante’s first professional starring role (although it's his second starring role and third full-length feature film). Here, he plays a man called Rosendo.
