Today we brought in Simplify to integrate their Thunderbird 5G into Perak Transit smart pole, improving accessibility and connectivity for users at the smart bus stop.

With support for up to 128 devices at one time and stable 5G connectivity, this setup is built for real usage in high traffic areas. It is also powered by a combination of solar panels and a wind turbine, allowing it to operate independently and reduce reliance on the grid.

Yen Pei and Tiffany spent a few hours testing the features on site and discussing how the system performs in real conditions.

Malaysia100 Welcomes Malaysia’s First SARE Agreement, signed by SJKC Sam Chai together with GSPARX and TNB

Malaysia100 proudly welcomes the signing of the first Supply Agreement for Renewable Energy (SARE) in Malaysia under the Government’s enhanced solar initiative for schools. This landmark agreement between GSPARX, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and SJKC Sam Chai marks a significant milestone not only for Perak—but for the nation’s renewable energy transition.

Malaysia100 has played a central role in supporting this initiative through data collection, school engagement, and bridging communication between educational institutions and industry partners. We are pleased to see these efforts culminate in today’s signing and document exchange, which also reflects our broader mission to bridge gaps between policy design and on-the-ground implementation.

Through extensive collaboration with TNB, GSPARX, and the office of YB Howard Lee, Malaysia100 assisted in coordinating site inspections at eight schools (including SJKC Sam Chai) in the Kinta Valley. These assessments, which included electrical panel reviews and drone-based roof measurements, were essential in determining installation feasibility, projected energy yields, and long-term financial savings. They also allowed us to ensure that heritage buildings—many over a century old—could transition to renewable energy safely and sustainably.

The installation of a 71.92 kWp solar PV system at SJKC Sam Chai is expected to generate over 91,000 kWh in its first year and save the school nearly RM383,000 over the next 20 years. Fully funded by GSPARX and TNB under the ZERO CAPEX model, this initiative allows schools to adopt solar technology without any upfront payment, unlocking financial resources that can instead be channelled into educational programmes, digital tools, and student development.

This pilot project also supports the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), establishing a foundation for a generation of environmentally conscious students equipped with the tools and understanding necessary to thrive in a clean-energy future.

Thank you .networks for inviting Malaysia100 to be part of this session. It was great to share about the Smart Bus Stop project and to meet people who believe in building better cities through technology and collaboration.

At Malaysia100, we often talk about closing the gap between policy and real impact. The Smart Bus Stop started with that same idea, how can we turn simple public spaces into something useful, connected, and inclusive for everyone?

Coming from Ipoh, I’ve seen how digital inequality can affect education, mobility, and even basic access to information. With projects like this, we’re trying to show that innovation doesn’t always need to start big. It can begin with one bus stop, one community, one connection at a time.

This event also gave us a chance to meet new partners and explore possible investments that could scale this effort further. The energy in the room was inspiring, and I’m hopeful that the ideas we shared today will lead to more collaborations across cities.

We’re looking forward to the next phase, building a connected Malaysia that works for everyone.

MALAYSIA100 & PERAK TRANSIT: DRIVING A SMARTER, SUSTAINABLE FUTURE WITH BAS.MY

Ipoh, 24 February 2025 – Perak Transit, in collaboration with Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat (APAD) and Malaysia One Hundred (Malaysia100), proudly marked a major milestone with the official launch of BAS.MY. This initiative represents a new era of sustainable, efficient, and accessible public transportation, ensuring improved connectivity for all, including Persons with Disabilities (OKU).

The event, officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar Perak YAB Dato' Seri Saarani Bin Mohamad alongside the Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke Siew F**k, showcased key advancements, including the transition from manual to automatic bus transmission to enhance safety and efficiency. Attendees, including VIPs, media representatives, and the public, experienced this innovation firsthand as three designated buses toured Ipoh, providing a free preview of the future of public transport.

In addition to launching BAS.MY, Malaysia100 is actively working with Perak Transit on a strategic initiative to acquire and optimize bus stops across Perak. This collaboration with Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh aims to establish a fully integrated and passenger-friendly ecosystem, granting Perak Transit full control over bus stop management. This will enable better service coordination, improved infrastructure, and a seamless transit experience for all commuters.

As part of our ongoing public engagement, the BAS.MY exhibitions have now been relocated to Terminal Amanjaya, Meru Raya, where visitors can continue exploring the latest innovations in public transportation.

Malaysia100 remains committed to building a sustainable, efficient, and inclusive public transportation system. This initiative is more than just an upgrade — it’s a transformation of Perak’s transit network for the benefit of all.

Malaysia100, MP Ipoh Timor YB Howard Lee, and representatives from TNB and GSPARX conducted a site visit to 7 schools in the Kinta Valley to further explore the development of the landmark solar energy initiative in government-assisted schools.

Out of the 14 schools that signed the MoU, visits to the 7 schools were conducted by TNB and GSPARX with the aim of inspecting the main electrical panels and assessing the roofing size and area using drone units. The roof measurements provide GSPARX and TNB with comprehensive data to determine the number of solar panels that can be installed, as well as to assure the schools of the projected savings. This process is crucial not only for measuring viable roof space for photovoltaic (PV) panel installation but also for identifying unsafe roof structures.

Malaysia100 recognizes that several of these schools are housed in heritage buildings that have stood for over a century. As strong advocates for the preservation of heritage, we are committed to implementing sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions that respect and conserve these historical structures.

This pilot solar energy initiative in schools by GSPARX and TNB supports the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). A generation of energy-conscious citizens is being raised across Perak, starting with these 7 schools, by equipping them with the right technology and expertise. If renewable energy is wisely matched with supply and demand alongside downstream technology reliant on the critical mineral industries, Perak could easily become an iconic state in both local and international markets.

If there are any schools that wish to participate in the Zero Capital solar panel project initiative by GSPARX and TNB, please contact us at [email protected].
