Even though the history of Digital Marketing jumped off in the early 80s, it is safe to say that 1990 is the actual starting point for Digital Marketing. Why, you ask? Because that was the time when Archie was born, the first search engine was implemented and was an index for FTP sites (which happened after a few years, not immediately).
Three decades ago, marketers were just starting to add the term “digital marketing” to their vocabularies and game plans. This practice emerged with the rise of the Internet and speed up with the development of social media and smart phone technology.
Currently, digital marketing is a dynamic industry that has become one of the most important tools in a marketer’s strategy. From email marketing to user-generated content to organic and paid SEO, companies are continuously searching for new and better ways to reach people on the web and through their connected devices.
In its most basic form, digital marketing is the marketing of a product or service using online platforms; from Social Media & Pay Per Click advertising (PPC) to email marketing, and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
