As the country awaits Budget 2027, AMCHAM CEO Dato’ Siobhan Das was invited to participate in a discussion: At The Edge x HSBC Pre-Budget 2027 roundtable, themed “Sustaining Growth Amid Rising Uncertainties.”

The roundtable brought together key industry voices ahead of the tabling of the national Budget 2027, providing a platform to exchange perspectives on Malaysia’s economic outlook and the measures needed to sustain growth amid a changing global environment.

Discussions covered a range of issues, including fiscal consolidation, economic challenges, and incentives to support both local and foreign investment, with a particular focus on Malaysia’s competitiveness as an investment destination and as an economic engine for local business.

Dato’ Siobhan shared AMCHAM’s perspective on the policies and conditions needed to support business confidence, competitiveness, and continued investment in Malaysia, contributing to an important dialogue on the country’s economic priorities ahead of Budget 2027.

It was a great opportunity to be able to hear directly from Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican alongside the perspectives of HSBC CEO Omar Siddiq, FMM’s President, Jacob lee and Professor Kim Leng Yeah, all delightfully moderated by Kathy Fong of The Edge Malaysia

On 3 September 2026, AMCHAM hosted an exclusive briefing featuring Alex Tarascio, Pollster and Principal at Cygnal, one of the United States’ leading public opinion research firms, to explore the evolving U.S. political landscape ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

With the elections having the potential to reshape the balance of power in Washington and influence the direction of the remaining two years of the Trump administration, understanding voter sentiment and emerging electoral trends is increasingly important for businesses with interests in the United States.

Drawing on the latest polling data and voter research, Alex provided insights into the issues shaping the electorate, emerging electoral dynamics, and factors that could influence the outcome of the midterms. Malaysian SMEs will now be able to access greater support and knowledge transfer from the United States in a recently inked partnership. AMCHAM was pleased to host the MOU signing between the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association - MAIA and the American Welding Society (AWS) on 3 September 2026.

The partnership brings together MAIA’s industry network and AWS’s technical expertise to support the development and delivery of specialized training and certification programs in welding, joining, inspection, and aerospace-related disciplines.

Beyond technical training, the collaboration will promote professional development and create opportunities for technical seminars, conferences, and industry engagement. While the aerospace sector is a key focus, the partners will also explore how these capabilities can benefit other industries requiring specialized technical skills.

Under the MOU, AWS will provide technical expertise, instructors, and educational content, while MAIA will support promotion, participant recruitment, local coordination, and engagement with aerospace stakeholders in Malaysia.

This collaboration represents yet another step in American support for the development of Malaysian talent and capacity/capability building, working towards developing a stronger, more skilled workforce and supporting the continued advancement of Malaysia’s aerospace industry.

1 September 2026 marked the 80th Anniversary of the U.S. government’s Fulbright Program which advances educational exchange, academic excellence and mutual understanding across nations. The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (Fulbright Malaysia / MACEE) that runs the program in Malaysia, marked this occasion with an MOU signing between Fulbright Malaysia and 26 Malaysian universities (Public & Private).

The event held in Putrajaya was attended byYBhg. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Aminuddin bin Hassim, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education; David Gamble U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i.; Cate Dillon, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), and Aeti Abdullah, Executive Director, Fulbright Malaysia (MACEE).

The Secretary General’s keynote highlighted the powerful legacy of Fulbright Malaysia, particularly the Malaysian Fulbrighters who have returned home to contribute to policy, institutions, research, and national development. Since 1963, the program has connected more than 1,000 Malaysians with opportunities in the United States and welcomed over 2,000 U.S. participants to Malaysia.

In a private meeting with Assistant Secretary Cate Dillon, AMCHAM’s CEO Dato’ Siobhan Das discussed future collaborations to encourage stronger engagement that can support the talent needs of today’s environment and how the Fulbright Program could strengthen the robust links that already exist in the business environment between Malaysia and the United States.

Congratulations to Fulbright Malaysia and MACEE on 80 years of international excellence and a longstanding partnership that continues to connect people, build knowledge, and develop the leaders of tomorrow.

On 20 August 2026, AMCHAM hosted the Healthcare Forum 2026 at Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown, under the theme “Building Better Health Through Knowledge and Action.” The forum brought together leaders and experts from government, industry, healthcare providers, employers, and academia to explore how stronger cross-stakeholder collaboration can help build a more resilient, accessible, and sustainable healthcare ecosystem for Malaysia.

We were honored to welcome YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia, as our Guest of Honor. In his keynote, the Minister addressed the pressures facing Malaysia’s healthcare system and the importance of better health outcomes, patient experience, and value, while recognizing the private sector’s role in innovation, diagnostics, digital health, and new models of care.

This year’s Forum also introduced the Innovation Experience Zones, where participating companies presented their latest healthcare products, services, technologies, and solutions. The Minister took time to engage with the zones on how their innovations can contribute to the wider healthcare ecosystem.

Steven Chan, Group Chief Government Relations and Public Policy Officer, Prudential plc opened the forum setting the stage to explore the interconnected dimensions of healthcare transformation.

Innovation in Action: Shaping the Patient Experience examined how AI, digital health, advanced diagnostics, remote monitoring, and precision therapies are enabling earlier intervention, more personalized care, and better outcomes throughout the patient journey. Moderated by Azrul Mohd Khalib, Founder and CEO of the Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy, the panel featured Dr. Tengku Noor Farhana Tengku Khalid (Ministry of Health Malaysia), Logan Caragata (Roche), Dr. Eleni Antoniadou Dimokidis (Microsoft Asia), and Dr. Vivek Iyer (Abbott Diabetes Care Division).

Our second panel, Investing in Health, Strengthening the Economy, looked at how investing in employee health and well-being can contribute to a healthier, more resilient, and productive workforce. Dr. Azlan Darus (PERKESO), Selvi Nadarajan (Kvalito), Manisha Keyal (Prudential Malaysia), and Gajendran Karunanithi (IBM Global Affairs) shared their perspectives, with Dr. Khor Swee Kheng of Angsana Health as moderator.

The final panel, Empowering Communities for a Healthier Nation, focused on bringing prevention closer to the communities. Dr. Aizuniza binti Abdullah (Ministry of Health), Deborah Seifert (Pfizer), Mandy Thoo (National Cancer Society Malaysia), and Datuk Dr. Thirunavukarasu Rajoo (Malaysian Medical Association and CareClinics Healthcare Services), moderated by Professor Elil Renganathan (Monash University Malaysia). A key message from the discussion was that awareness must be followed by action. Prevention only creates meaningful impact when people have access to the right information, support, and follow-up needed to act on it.
