In Malaysia, Raya is shaped by the people around us. Neighbours dropping by with kuih, colleagues celebrating across cultures, and open houses that welcome everyone, no matter their background.

Ramadan has always been a time of reflection, renewal and togetherness; But like all traditions, the way we celebrate continues to evolve.

From handwritten Raya cards to digital greetings, from bustling pasar malam to online bazaars, and from quiet kampung evenings to vibrant city lights, Ramadan today carries both heritage and modernity in equal measure.

In Malaysia especially, the beauty of Ramadan lies in our melting pot of cultures. The spirit of gotong-royong, the sharing of kuih from different homes, open houses that welcome neighbours of every background: Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous and beyond - all reflect how the holy month transcends race and community. Traditions blend, flavorrs mix, and what remains constant is the shared spirit of compassion and unity.

As we embrace both the old and the new, may this Ramadan remind us that while celebrations may evolve, the values of empathy, generosity and togetherness remain timeless.

There was a time when Chinese New Year arrived in shades of red and gold.

Stacks of angpao laid neatly on the table.
The careful selection of designs.
The quiet ritual of sliding crisp notes inside.

We remember holding them with both hands, receiving not just money, but blessings. Health. Protection. Prosperity. Love.

Today, a QR code can carry those blessings in seconds. A transfer is completed with a tap. It’s efficient. It’s modern. It’s the way forward.

But somewhere between the notification tone and the digital receipt, we may find ourselves missing the warmth of that simple exchange; The smile, the laughter, the presence.

An angpao was never just a red packet.
It was a moment shared. A tradition passed down. A memory in the making.

This Chinese New Year, whether given by hand or by scan, may we hold on to what truly matters: the spirit of giving, the joy of togetherness, and the traditions that shaped us.

✨ The choices we make in life define us. There is no right or wrong choices. There will be mistakes, there will be regrets. What is most important is for us to learn from them and recover.

Ivlynn Yap is an ordinary girl who grew up in a financially constraint family, lived in PPR flats, had wobbly legs at aged 4 and collapsed left lung at age 18 to become a journalist, an editor, a Regional Marketing Communication Manager, a PR Consultant, an entrepreneur, a crisis communication expert, a trainer and an Executive Chairman.

Ivlynn Yap is a woman who has lived fully, learned deeply, and now CHOOSES consciously.

Not reactive. Not naive. Not bitter. Conscious.

She has also climbed Mount Kinabalu, did bungy jumping in New Zealand, travelled solo in US, China, Europe and India. Visited 13 countries in one year. Completed MSc in Economic Crime Management with distinction at the age of 56.
