He has chalked 17 years of advertising experience with Mc
Cann-Erickson and Astana International before founding Cipta Asia and its group of companies. His rise was meteoric and he became among the youngest admen to be Group Account Director in a multinational agency after only 7 years with McCann-Erickson. He amassed expertise in handling international brands such as Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Tourism Authority of Thailand and blue chip accounts such as Petronas Dagangan and Tourism Malaysia (West Asia market). The highlight of his career was being the project manager for the 1997 FIFA/Coca-Cola World Youth Cup Football Tournament held in Malaysia where he successfully managed and coordinated the participation of 16 countries in that second biggest tournament after the World Cup, together spearheading its advertising and promotional requirements at Asian level. Apart from that, arguably, he was instrumental in his foray to launch, re-brand and manage successful campaigns such as Chup! Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Enjoy, Levi’s Are You A Star, Kad Mesra Dream, Swipe & Win Promotion and many more. He founded Cipta Asia Sdn Bhd and soon after, in collaboration with others, Cipta Asia Motion Sdn Bhd, Cipta Asia Worldwide Sdn Bhd, Cipta Asia Syndication Sdn Bhd, Cipta Asia Design Sdn Bhd and Lemon9 Sdn Bhd were formed. These companies provide a range of services that encompass communication work from advertising, broadcast production, post production and experiential activation. Given all that have been said, Arif Effendi Alias can best be summed up by the words of Ben Johnson, 1640: “He knows not his own strength that hath not met adversity.”
