Hyundai Motor Company has now officially established Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY), a new local entity following the brand’s entry into the Malaysian market. This marks a major step forward, as Hyundai will no longer rely on a distributor (Sime Motors), but will instead take full control of its operations here.
Hyundai is currently expanding its team in Malaysia, planning a nationwide dealer network, and will launch various initiatives to bring the brand closer to the hearts of the people. HMY’s headquarters is located at Menara Affin @ TRX, Kuala Lumpur.
According to Eric Lee, President of Hyundai Motor Malaysia, Hyundai is not just about mobility, but also about how the brand connects with people and the future. The establishment of HMY is not merely a new chapter, but a long-term commitment to making Malaysia Hyundai’s key hub in ASEAN.
In the near future, HMY will introduce three new models, consisting of SUVs and MPVs. Hyundai will also begin local assembly (CKD) in Kedah through a partnership with Inokom Corporation.
Operations are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with seven models planned to be produced over the next five years. These will include both petrol and hybrid vehicles. Around 30% of the vehicles assembled in Malaysia will also be exported to neighboring countries.
Although Hyundai is now taking over its own operations, Sime Motors will remain an important partner as part of its dealer network. Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia, stated that they remain committed to supporting Hyundai sales and services to ensure a smooth transition and continued excellent customer service.
