: Air quality remained poor across Sarawak as of 4 pm on Thursday (Sept 3), with Lubok Antu recording a very hazardous API of 469.

IPD Serian remained hazardous at 370, while Lundu worsened from very unhealthy to hazardous at 305. Several other areas continued to record very unhealthy readings.

The public is advised to stay safe, wear a mask when outdoors, and limit or avoid strenuous outdoor activities while air quality remains poor.

: The work continues in the pool as Sarawak’s para swimming squad goes through its drills ahead of Para SUKMA Selangor.

With 12 gold medals targeted, the 27-strong squad features 21 Para SUKMA debutants alongside an experienced core, with several swimmers having already competed at national level.

“With the new swimmers coming in, this is also part of our preparation for the future. We hope they can gain experience and eventually become the next generation of swimmers for Sarawak,” head coach Syarbini Kedri said.

The swimmers will continue their preparations before competition gets underway Monday (Sept 7) at Selangor Aquatic.

: Malaysia’s husband-and-wife pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jamie Lai survived a tense decider to keep their run alive, overcoming Japan’s Akira Koga and Nao Saito 21-14, 19-21, 21-10 in 58 minutes to reach the mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Earlier, Hoo Pang Ron–Lai Pei Jing also advanced after edging China’s Cheng Xing–Zhang Chi 24-22, 21-19.

Malaysia, however, saw both women’s doubles pairs bow out. Low Zi Yu–Noraqilah Maisarah lost 13-21, 16-21 to China’s Jia Yifan–Zhang Shuxian, while Pearly Tan–Thinaah Muralitharan were edged 16-21, 21-17, 19-21 by Thai sisters Benyapa Aimsaard–Nuntakarn Aimsaard after 67 minutes.

: Sarawak are targeting 12 gold medals in para swimming at Para SUKMA Selangor, with a new generation making up the bulk of their 27-strong squad.

Twenty-one swimmers will make their Para SUKMA debuts, while the experienced core includes several athletes who have competed at national level. Sarawak will also look to the women’s and mixed relays for medals.

“With the new swimmers coming in, this is also part of our preparation for the future. We hope they can gain experience and eventually become the next generation of swimmers for Sarawak,” head coach Syarbini Kedri said.
